Since we first heard the rumblings of a solo tour, we have wondered what a David Archuleta tour would be. We worried about the type of venue. We pondered whether said venues would be suitable for our burgeoning star. We fretted over mosh pits. Questioned whether to mosh or not to mosh. Whether to throw caution to the wind and fly cross country to see one more show.
Once the tour started, we wondered whether the critics would be fair. We wondered whether he would be able to endure such a whirlwind tour, his first solo tour ever. Most of all we probably wished, wondered, prayed whether ‘they’ would love him like we do.
So now we know (vicariously for many) it is better to mosh, than never to have moshed at all. We know that this young man is a force, and although he may be compact in stature, he is strong, vital, and equipped to meet all challenges. We know that the stage is where his magic is made. We know the critics can’t help but tip their collective hat, and give a nod to him because he is the real deal.
Some of us are actually having a little separation anxiety. Our beloved is about to show the world (well at least parts of Asia and the U.K.) what we already know: that David Archuleta is a multi-faceted, once in a lifetime, extraordinary talent. So fans in Hong Kong, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, hang on to your seats. Watch out McFly fans. You are about to be amazed.
We’ve come so far as a fan base. Although we still angst and fret, there is also a feeling of certainty in the air. We know that he won’t be denied. Any worries of Disneyfication, or Montanization dissipate with every strut, every flex, and every beam of that megawatt smile.
Every time he steps on that stage with the growing confidence far exceeding our wildest expectations, we are renewed. We forget all of the worry, the fretting, maybe even a little of the fear. If David had any of the same pre-tour apprehension that we did, it must be gone by now.
His solo tour was sold-out success, with fans traveling from literally around the world to see him. The love he poured out on stage was matched and magnified by the adoring crowds.
So now what? What do we do until he graces that stage again? Until he takes Asia and the U.K. by storm? I say we sip a little Angels Tonic. Follow it with a Barriers Chaser. If that is not enough, I would prescribe a Zero Gravity Mojito. After that I would suggest we just catch our collective breath and exhale. Then we strap ourselves in again, this ride has just begun.

Great article brooklyndawn! This is the lull between the storm of shows and a good moment for reflection. I have to laugh a bit at how we all fret and stew (myself included). When has he ever failed us or ceased to amaze?

I brought my comment from the last post cuz I included one of David’s best performances which was very early in his tour. This one was absolutely stunning to watch. I was thinking “Who are you and where have you been hiding, and what did you do with OUR David??”

I just watched part 2 of The Interview and there WAS a fleeting “look” when Buble name was mentioned, but it could have been simply that he was caught off guard cuz Buble is SO FAR from where David is going with his music right now. I think they could have chosen another artist to add to the mix. Someone who is “different from David” like Springsteen for example, or Timberlake, but not as different as Buble’. I wonder what David thinks of Bruce & Justin cuz they are so huge, or artists like Prince. We know he loves Michael Jackson’s music & performances. It’s just me that’s curious, that’s all.
The thing that really intrigued me about this interview is David’s ability to multitask..He seemed to be reading & texting for a good part of the time, which must have been very distracting to the Snarks. But still answered the questions with thoughtful intelligence. And he thinks he’s not cool?? He is cooler than the coolest, hippest 18 year old I have EVER seen.

No anxiety here, Brooklyn! I took the evening to rewatch some Duluth videos- WFY, ZG and My Hands are in my drink! I’m looking forward to hearing from David and his fans in Asia. I’m psyched and have nothing but the most optmistic expectations. No concerts in the horizon for me – all I have is my cd and the YouTube videos, but that’s a lot more than I had a year ago.
Well to fill in some time til an update bulletin shows up, I booked a flight from NYC to San Diego for the June 20 concert. I suppose there are those who might think that mad, but certainly no one on this list. At least it feels proactive. I’m excited already and it’s weeks away. Miles to go etc etc. And now back to the glass of wine accompanied by lots of Youtube.

river, My sis & I will see you there! And this is just the first summer concert series that’s been announced so far. There will be more…I’m just wondering where. I think there may be one in the far northwest like Seattle or Portland, Colorado, Florida and Canada for sure. It’s going to be a great summer and fall. We will NEVER get enough or too much of David!
oh yeah… I think the Fair will offer a great chance for a get together before the concert. and then there is the possibility of a summer tour. I think my life just got put on hold.
SF, thanks for reposting djb’s Sayerville vid. One of my favourite performances from the tour, one that made me go back and really LISTEN to that song.
And getting back to Michael Buble, I love his sound but he’s in a completely different genre than David. I think David is probably just tired of the constant comparisons to Buble and Josh Groban by those who try to pigeonhole him as a balladeer.

Well timed and very well written post. He has outdone himself and continues to exceed expectations with each new endeavor. How we worry! And with each new worry comes the fresh revelation__he exceeds.
We are going through something new now. Sharing him with the world. I knew it would come. I just didn’t think it would come so soon.
I don’t really feel separation anxiety. I am so proud of him and excited to see this come to pass. A little worried, but that comes with the territory. A definition of Love I read once was, “Anxious concern for the well-being of another.” So a little anxiety is natural when you love someone as much as we here love David.
There is a poem I love called Wait by Galway Kinnell.
It goes in part:
Wait, for now.
Distrust everything if you have to.
*But trust the hours. Haven’t they carried you everywhere, up to now?
I would take the liberty to change that to:
*But trust the Archulator. Hasn’t he carried you everywhere, up to now?

SF – Thanks for the post djb video, hadn’t gone back to that one in a while, the moment at 3:32, the look on his face is kind of like “whew”, maybe a little shy about what he just did. I don’t know, did anybody notice that?
I’ve asked those familiar with the fair what’s it like, everyone says it’s a really nice place in a really beautiful area by the coast. To make sure and take something warm for the evening time since it cools down considerably. Can’t wait.
Buble, he’s talented and has some great lyrics but his performances are rather dull, but I got to confess everyone else seems dull since the Voice took over my life. No one conveys the emotion of a song the way he does. I watched Prince on Leno, vocally talented and great performer, but no connection with my soul.

Djafan, I didn’t go back to rewatch the DLG video from Sayerville but I thinkI know what “look” you’re talking about. Is it the one where he kind of looks down a little bit? If it is, I always thought he was looking at himself, his shirt, like he thinks he popped a button off of it or something because I noticed in the video right after DLG (and I forget which one it is but I think it’s the beginning of ZG, not sure) he is still looking at his shirt like he thinks it’s opened or something…God forbid he shows some skin ha-ha.
Or, if it’s the other “look” where he looks at someone in the audience it’s as if he said “you caught me”. Like you said he was so into it and woke up from his spell and yes, a little shy about what he just did. I’ll have to rewatch it now. In Sayreville DLG, I beg to differ about 3:35 where you said that “he definitely touches his shirt like he popped a button.” If you take another look, he looks down to check the setlist for the next song. He may have touched his shirt because it was in the way of his view. Then he immediately introduced the next song. Watch it again and tell me what you think, please. Amazing how we analyze these things! By the way pabuckie your avi is a killer!
Trying to come up with the best video of the tour is tough. It requires some thought and research. There are so many good ones; it’s hard to pick. I’ll work on it tomorrow.

betsey – so sorry about your stuff…. I can’t seem to run the windows media player right. I tried burning a CD with it but the CD won’t play. Are you tied to an itunes or Zune library? No problem with the Zune (made by microsoft) library, so I will just use that from now on. For ease of navigation on that site and it seems unrestricted (612 videos from other sites – ie; youTube, nD; etc.) so far. I also have an itunes library (ipod) but they have so many restrictions & am constantly losing songs that I’ve downloaded from sources other than itunes.
Sorry, I know I’m violating one of the rules above but feel this might be helpful.

David Archuleta has a nice habit. He’s that perky little teen-ager from Utah who came in second last year in the “American Idol” sing-off. He’s one of the best known young singers in America. Shrieking, slightly insane teen-age girls adore him. Yet he’s polite and respectful. He has his ego under control. He’s almost embarrassed at his success.
That’s a nice habit you have there, David.

I love your avi too. Where is that pic from? I agree with you guys. Sayerville FTW! The FOD poll for the best ZG did not even include Sayerville which is still my favorite. Guess cause it didn’t have the jumping. But he was so intense, I never get tired of watching it. DLG Sayerville was the best of that song too, IMO. He was really in the zone for that show!

I’m so proud of David! Singapore is a very safe country (much safer than the U.S.). I think David’s label and management would not take his safety and security lightly. I think they know what they are doing. It must be nice for David to experience a little independence! Good for him!

Let me see, David has been “touring” now since the beginning of the AI Tour and Jeff has been there from the first concert to the Solo tour Finale, with the exception of when Lupe joined David on both the AI & solo tour. I just find it funny that here I was chewing my nails, worrying & saying David will need more than just Ray with him in Asia. Of all the times I ACTUALLY WANT Jeff with David, it’s now. Although, from the video, they did have reps meeting them..did you see the girl telling the fans “no more” & leading David away? hmmmmm? I guess David will be well taken care of!

Revised Schedule of Asia Tour. He won’t be able to go to Hong Kong and Philippines this month. His revised schedule will be as follows:
1st stop in Singapore, will start his promotion from 6-7 April
2nd stop in Malaysia, KL 8-12 April (leave on 12 Apr), It’s been confirmed that he will have a performance on 11 April, 3pm at Sunway Lagoon!

I was wondering, with the upcoming UK tour, concert with Cook, summer tour and heaven knows what else, this could be the best opportunity for Jeff to spend sometime with Lupe and the family. I’m not too surprised that David went to Singapore alone. I believe Jeff has known for some time that David is quite capable of doing many things on his own but he (Jeff) wasn’t quite ready to let go.
I loved those short videos of his arrival. I’ve traveled to that part of the world and it means so much to have a friendly face greet you. So kind of the fans to meet him at the international arrivals gate. They were classy about it, too, and welcomed him to their country. He must have been so touched. He will be taking off those warmer clothes very soon after getting a blast of hot and humid air!
Looked like he had BMG/Sony label reps there to meet him, and I think I saw Ray, too. Hope he gets a little time to do some touristy things, although I am sure he will be very busy with promo after the label spent the $$ to bring him there.

I was about to write how wonderful it was to see my first article at justDavid, and how much fun I had reading all of the comments. Now I am just feeling overjoyed and thankful that this young man has such a palate to paint from. The bouncing joy of Zero Gravity, to the fall on your knees reverence of How Great Thou Art. He’s something else, totally peerless. Totally.
I wish that David was going to the UK alone, too, for at least part of the time. Who knows? Maybe David will decide he can handle that, too, after doing this trip. I am glad that Jeff is home with his other kids and spouse. It’s been far too long. David has a tour manager, band mates, and label reps now who can accompany him on most promo and tours.

He is something totally else. One thing is for sure, with all his options and talent to deliver, he will never, ever be boring. I always think I can’t love him more. How much love can one heart take?
He’s there safely! So glad there’s video of him, even so short, I’m so proud of him. Those fans sounded so happy to see him. He doesn’t realize he never doesn’t look good. Looking at those videos from the snarky’s interview, seeing him at the airport… didn’t realize I would feel such anticipation of where he’s headed…the sky’s the limit.

Is there any way to save the file with a different ending other than – html? WMP cannot open the file with that ending and I do not know how to change it even if it can be done. My save options are document or all files. I tried both but it still saves the file as “html”.

Do you know how to do that? I have WMP amd WMC (windows media center) preinstalled but do not know if that is the default player. I’m one step away from downloading VLC Media Player. Last Sunday I downloaded a trojan virus so I am now EXTREMELY wary of any free software but for David – I’m getting desperate!

I have a few folks already sending me a mailing address for the CD. I have some made up and waiting for the cases, covers and labels from Dawn. She is working on that now and will be mailing a box to me soon. What jD admin has decided is that if you want a Cd, put your email in the contact page at the top of this site and say you want it forwarded to me. I will email you back asking for mailing address and fill you in on some particulars.
Lots to read tonight here. I wonder if David realizes he has so many “mothers”. I am pleased a punch to see him arrive and have our sisters and brothers take him into their hearts for a few days

How Great Thou Art is one of my favorites and we sing it often at my church. It’s one of the ones I sing for the rest of the day. Sometimes I belt it out on the way home (ps I CAN NOT CARRY A TUNE) just to make my daughters cringe…and I mean that in the nicest way!

djafan, I use quicktime pro for that. I meant to post that. And also that there is an odd glitch I haven’t resolved with that. I can make the rotation and re-save (export) as mp4, but in the process I’ve noticed that around halfway through the playback, the audio goes out of synch. So, I hafta figure out (or FIX) that, which I have not done as yet.

It is not unreasonable to compare David with Elvis. By the time David is the age that Elvis was when he hit the scene back in ’56, he will have already surpassed Elvis in scope and popularity.

bliss– I agree with you on the Elvis theory– it really is not unreasonble to compare the two. Funny thing is, I grew up thru the Elvis era but I really didn’t ‘appreciate’ him when I was younger. I enjoyed listening to him, but that was about it. When Priscilla had the specials on TV about him a few years ago, I took to them and was a converted Elvis fan. I bought cd’s like no other. Then when my husband had a real medical emergency, they pulled me thru a really hard spring/summer with him in and out of the hospital. Too bad I didn’t have David then.
Elvis has been the absolute best male singer in the world since the 1950s. There has been very little debate about it over the years. It’s like the Beatles being the best group ever. There has been some rumbling about The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd or even (holding my nose) Nirvana, but there really is no one to compare with either Elvis or the Beatles. Actually, I kinda liked Gary Lewis and the Playboys, but that’s another story.
David’s voice is already better than Elvis’, and he has a 5 year head start. Elvis was admired from afar. David can be seen shlepping his own luggage off of a plane half way around the world. David will always be one of us, even if lives in his version of Graceland (how about “Archuland”?)

Tawna, the truly great singers not only entertain, they soothe, heal, comfort, and revive. There have been precious few singers of either gender who were able to do even one of these things. Elvis evolved over the years into a singer and performer who could reach people on many levels. David has been on the scene for barely a year, is 18 years old, and can all of these things already in ways that Elvis never was able to do.
David is a physically beautiful young man, almost painfully so, but the beauty that we are “seeing” is really his inner beauty that David is sharing with us. His generosity of spirit, especially when he sings, has never benn approached by anyone.

Could his inner beauty, spirit glow? This must sound crazy but I’m going to throw it out there. In the videos I’ve watched it looks like he’s glowing, orbs…aura, don’t know. I attribute it to the lighting, but I believe that things can be caught in pictures or video that are not seen with the naked eye. I’ve watched some closely to see if this glow changes when the lighting changes, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t. Then when I saw David live in Pomona I was 5 people back from the stage, and I thought my God he does glow, there is a brightness emanating from him that’s unreal. I’m I the only one seeing this or is my ODD so bad I’m hallucinating.

You’re not the only one seeing the aura around David. I see it mostly in his eyes in photographs. It’s like an illumination emanating from him. Yeah it sounds crazy and I haven’t verbalized it much but feel comfortable doing it here.
bebereader – Well I’m glad it’s not just me. At the concert I looked at the people around me wondering if they could see what I was seeing. I was blown away. His eyes at the end of Angels was indescribable.

joymus1151 – same thing happened to me on sunday. I think the link was from altromed or something like that. It did not infect my computer but could not remove the program that was waitng to do so. I think it was either F2HD or megalaud. Anyway, haven’t been able to download any vids from F2HD but did have success with the mediafire MP3. Looks like several of us were hit. Hopefully this doesn’t happen again, as it was pricey to fix.
Here is A Little Too Not Over You from Reno, taken from the 5th row of the mosh pit. Not the best, but another perspective, like bebe was saying. What I actually could see at that time was much less than what’s in the video, because I raised my arm up to do the taping. My lifted arm was really sore after a while, and had to use the other arm to support it.
I think the audio was good though, and the audience was singing along and cheering throughout. You can feel the crowd’s affection towards him. I still feel touched now. Fans in Asia, show David Love!

Good morning everyone! I have a question that requires joggling your memory. Way back when David was on AI, I read an article about him that revealed that he was often called upon to visit relatives and neighbors who were in hospital so that he could “heal” them with his singing voice.

A highschool girl from Columbia was here in Canada as part of an exchange program that lasted for a few weeks…I was to the neighbors house visiting when the subject of David came up and none of the ladies there had heard of him…well that has changed of course…The girl from Columbia called home that night and mentioned him and of course her sister went crazy going on and on and how wonderful and handsome he is…what a surprise to everyone…so glad to hear Columbia is in the know!!!

HG, 10:19, I’ve never read or heard that but I did read something by Brett that mentioned a time when David was hanging out with the family at his house. The kids were goofing around on karaoke, and Brett mentioned how much better he felt after hearing David sing, even from the next room and in that playful setting.
