SLC: Surreal or so real?

David, David, David… Yes, he’s amazing, freakishly talented, über-adorkable. But, what I want to figure out is, how has he created this remarkable community of new old friends just by singing a few nice songs?

On Monday, I pondered this riddle over the 14 hours it took me to get home to Toronto from Salt Lake City.

I spent three days there and I still feel hung over, partly from the blinding beauty of the mountains — which are so close they smack you in the face with their majesty every time you turn around — and partly from the magnificence of the concert itself. To describe it, I’d need to resort to Klingon, however, because all English words fail me.

But most of all, I’m still a little too not over all the incredible fans I met and talked at length with. This is a phenomenon we’re part of folks, and it’s truly remarkable.

To start things off, on Friday and Saturday, Refnaf and I were thrilled to be able to meet up with amazing justDaviders Awestruck, SandyBeaches, (and their husbands), Sweetonda (who kindly drove by Murray High!), SilverFox, and their lovely sisters, Knotliser, Peru, Mike, davidfanLIZ, Vermeer, as well as fans from all the other sites.

The concert itself? A dream. A beautiful dream. The moment that will stay with me forever is the vision of David bounding onto the stage, smile as big as all Utah. For TMH he practically bounced out of his shoes with excitement. So did I. And that was just the first five minutes.

One of the surreal ArchuMoments of the trip was realizing that many months ago I watched a YouTube of a silver-haired lady driving around a parking lot blasting Crush. Now, here I was sitting right beside SilverFox, my now e-friend, at a David Archuleta concert … doing the wave.

Each David concert has brought more wonderful strangers-I-feel-I’ve-known-forever friends into my life. And this trip was no exception. In fact, it felt more like a family reunion — one where everyone gets along.

Especially Saturday night — it was … sorry, might have to resort to Klingon again.

That night, Refnaf and I were fortunate to be included in a gathering of 30 or so fans from several sites at ThisIsYourMotherSpeaking’s house. At one point, Karin from SnarkyArchies suggested that, for fun, we go around the room and, one by one, each person share their favourite “David moment.”

These ranged from hilariously funny “meeting David” stories, complete with reenactments, to incredibly moving examples of how David’s music had turned lives around for the better. It was one of the most profound shared experiences I’ve ever been a part of. I’ll never forget it.

After we left, it started to sink in that, for me, this whole tour has gone beyond hearing David sing live, as wonderful as that is. Hearing the impact his music has had on so many people and feeling the powerful connection with so many virtual strangers, I began to appreciate why this is happening.

David’s music may be brilliant and beautiful but like all great art, it also stands for something. He stands for something — hope, truth, honesty, but most of all love, pure love.

That’s what draws us in, connects us together and keep us there, song after song. What a powerful force for good in the world.

I flew home knowing deep in my heart that I need to honour that. And I will.

TOfan – your post is LOVE too.

“David’s music may be brilliant and beautiful but like all great art, it also stands for something. He stands for something — hope, truth, honesty, but most of all love, pure love.

That’s what draws us in, connects us together and keep us there, song after song. What a powerful force for good in the world.

Perhaps this is the greatest honor we can bestow upon David. And, I think, wouldn’t he be happy to think the he had inspired us to do so.

Everyone gone to bed? Hmmmm. Utah is my favorite state to visit west of the Mississippi (although New Mexico is a close 2nd). Been traveling & trying to discover all the astounding sites. If anyone is into road trips, Utah is a must.

Is this Tofan’s post? Love this site and all the thought provoking threads. There are alot of different viewpoints of what (reason) or why the VOICE has become a part of our lives. Yet all seem bound together by his genuine love of all that is life, as well as his musical soul. Your words are a wonderful tribute to our David. “David’s music may be brilliant and beautiful but like all great art, it also stands for something. He stands for something — hope, truth, honesty, but most of all love, pure love.” Now I know why so many yell out “I love you” when he sings. He gives, he receives.

“That’s what draws us in, connects us together and keep us there, song after song. What a powerful force for good in the world.” Everyday you see examples of how he affects those he touches through his unwavering love, truthfulness and honesty (he’s so honest, he’s adorkable). For me the hope is more subtle – like when he sang “Imagine” at the Holiday of Hope. It’s the nuances (facial expressions that look/feel like they come from his soul; emotive phrasing) that left me feeling hopeful. So much so that I wanted everyone to feel it through his singing this song at Pres. Obama’s Inaguration. Maybe things would have been on a more hopeful path. OK, maybe not but one can hope. I know I do.

In reference to DLG, where he sometimes inserts the Fray line the “uuhhhuuuhh”, why does that emotive phrasing reach deep inside me and brings me to tears? Is it because he just sang “One day will both change the weather & it gets better….” (hope)? Excuse the awkward punctuation.

TOfan..of all the videos out there, why this one??

David has made me do things and say things I never thought I would or could anymore, since I was a teenager.

The weekend in Utah was one I will cherish forever. Meeting for the first time, TOfan, refnaf, awestruck, sandybeaches, and so many others was so wonderful. David’s fans are among the very best people in the world. I’m talking about really GOOD people. Deep down in their souls GOOD! We are all so different, from different walks of life, ages, & genders, yet we are all connected in our hearts because of our love for David. How very awesome is that? Here I am, old enough to be a “mom” to a lot of you here, but he makes me feel young again..he is my Fountain of Youth!

I read “thisisyourmomspeaking” over at Snarky’s and she made a comment that some fansites were “mad” about the Snarky’s being able to interview David. WHAT? OMG! WHY? What a wonderful thing that we are able to see that fans actually have the priviledge of interviewing our David and asking the right questions for a change. Questions we all want answers to. Has the 2nd part come up yet? I am looking forward to it!

  4. 4 olemr2001 April 2, 2009 at 8:43 am

TOfan, I did enjoy reading your reflections, and you are so right about David: “He stands for something.”

And I am delighted to see your prominent display of “Lady Blasting David Archuleta.” I have returned to that video from time to time, and I think it has become something of a rallying point for those of us who are David’s “older” fans.

This morning I went ahead and downloaded the starrynites audio of the full SLC concert. Thanks a lot to whoever is responsible for making it available.

Since WYOY in central MS added ALTNOY last month, I have checked the audience charts from time to time to see how it is doing. For a while, it bounced around. It might be #56 one day, #29 the next day, then #52, then #37, and so on. A couple of days ago it fell to #95, so I had prepared myself for it to fall off the chart entirely when I checked today. But surprise, it is #24. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Good morning everyone! Thanks for offering a different perspective on SLC, TOfan. This performance is now becoming legendary in Archuworld.

One thing that I’ve obviously missed, not being able to attend the solo tour, is the connections made with fellow JDers. I had a blast last December, not just seeing David live for the first time, but actually meeting and putting faces to the screen names I’ve been interacting with here.

David is magical, not just for his voice and beauty and charisma, but for his ability to bring so many of us together.

    Lovely post! 🙂

“I read “thisisyourmomspeaking” over at Snarky’s and she made a comment that some fansites were “mad” about the Snarky’s being able to interview David. WHAT? OMG! WHY?”

    One word, SF: ENVY.

I had mentioned this in my previous thread that fan communities have a way of engaging in in-fighting because some seem to have an “in” with the artist. But, I was just loving the Snarky interview because 1)they are a persistent and dedicated crew and 2)they asked all the right questions!

  7. 7 refnaf April 2, 2009 at 9:18 am

“This is a phenomenon we’re part of folks, and it’s truly remarkable.”
It really is, I’ve experienced it! Getting smacked in the face by the beauty of the mountains, meeting jDer’s, being blown away by the Voice, sharing David moments in Mom’s basement…
(((hugs))) TOfan, thank you so much for putting into words our amazing weekend…And the thing is, I AM inspired, by David and also the epeeps I’ve met.
“David’s music may be brilliant and beautiful but like all great art, it also stands for something. He stands for something — hope, truth, honesty, but most of all love, pure love.” So beautifully said, so true, and the experience of it is, woundrous.
SF, a surreal moment for me is when I jumped into the front seat of your car and looked over at you and realized that, I really was in Utah.. meeting people I had known so long in cyyber space and that they are just as cool in life as in espace.
It is sad that peeps can be “mad’, about the snarky interview. They are so random and young, much better that some of the interviews we have seen. I’d like to envision a “Brotherhood (sisterhood) of Fansites. With David as our inspiration, is that to much to ask?

  8. 8 momjulee April 2, 2009 at 9:56 am

ref, thanks for pointing me over here. Like you all, I agree that what TOFan said about David being pure love is true. And that’s why it’s so hard to understand how fans would actually rather NOT hear the amazing things David had to say to the Snarkies simply because it was not THEM that had the opportunity of doing the asking. That crazy fan behavior again (all about the FAN, not about David)

I am afraid that it will be so edited down now because the girls are worried about backlash, that the essence of it will be lost. To have someone finally talk to David who actually knew stuff about him – who the writers were on his songs, which ones David had written, already knowing what foods he liked, getting him to free-associate-sing, talk intelligently about his journey into song writing, know who is friends are, and not one question about a girlfriend or what he’s been doing since Idol, or how he ‘feels’ about his newfound fame. It’s amazing. I think it’s worth it all simply for the “Sesame Chicken. Hmmmm!” comment!

Silverfox – this is how crazy last weekend was – I know I saw you and gave you a hug, but for the life of me I cannot remember where. Now I’m thinking I dreamed it. I am sorry we did not have more time together in the craziness. I would have loved to have you in my basement along with TOfan and Refnaf! Next time for sure!

  9. 9 silverfox April 2, 2009 at 10:25 am

mom..see why I love ya! And the Snarky’s!

I saw you at the concert when I asked Brett if I could buy one of his bracelets, you were standing right there, we hugged and Brett asked you if you had any bracelets left. You said you had two, but one was for Lupe. I was able to get the other bracelet. Yoo-hoo! It was crazy that night for sure and it is like a dream. Going to Utah was a dream come true for me.

I saw you again at the after-party. You looked so tired. I wanted to say something to you as we were leaving, but I couldn’t find you. There were so many people I met and so many I wanted to meet, but didn’ all the rest of the Snarky’s Angels. I think you all are quirky, a little eccentric, & very quick thinking, kinda like David. The Snarky’s have GENIUS minds, like David.

  10. 10 juliebug April 2, 2009 at 10:26 am

Mom – I really hope they don’t edit. They have done a great thing, and I was SO happy for them. I couldn’t believe some of the stuff I was reading from some of the fans. Unreal. How selfish and not very David-like. I hope the Snarky girls realize that those complaining are a MINUTE number compared to those who are thrilled they finally got the chance to interview David and were grateful they were willing to share. And what at great job they did, too! They’ve been pretty forthright from the beginning of their site…I hope they find it in themselves to continue to do so despite a few selfish people.

  11. 11 djafan April 2, 2009 at 10:34 am

TOfan – He stands for something — hope, truth, honesty, but most of all love, pure love.

Great post! First the voice, then hope, truth, honesty, but most of all love, pure love. I love hearing from all that they felt it, the pure love emanating out of him.

fandaforever – Now I know why so many yell out “I love you” when he sings. He gives, he receives.

So true, I for one yelled it freely, it was like an urge from somewhere that couldn’t be held back. A 48 year lady screaming “I love you” waving my arms to an 18 year old singer… might of looked strange to some, but it seemed like everyone was into their own connection with David.

momjulee – I hope they don’t edit…THEY SHOULDN’T SUCCUMB TO THE NAYSAYERS. I’ve read the comments on the youtube, left my own, and the majority are positive. I hate when a few can dictate the majority…

  12. 12 vee60 April 2, 2009 at 11:00 am

Just uploaded WARNING TO DIE FOR

To be with you, again thanks to AmyE228
very close and very very good audio

Love song SLC , thanks to AmyE228
very close as in very close

Tofan thanks for the post and luv these :

“David’s music may be brilliant and beautiful but like all great art, it also stands for something. He stands for something — hope, truth, honesty, but most of all love, pure love.

That’s what draws us in, connects us together and keep us there, song after song. What a powerful force for good in the world.”

David is like a magnet. Why a magnet?

A magnet (from Greek μαγνήτης λίθος, “Magnesian stone”) is a material or object that produces a magnetic field. This magnetic field is invisible but is responsible for the most notable property of a magnet: a force that pulls on other ferromagnetic materials and attracts or repels other magnets.

David create this invisible magnetic field and it only attracts people as Tofan said that signify/promote ” hope, truth, honesty, but most of all love, pure love”. of course sometimes there are exceptions to the rule but I think in this archuland, most if not all archies are special loving people

However, David is not just a magnet, he is a permanent magnet. A permanent magnet is one made from a material that stays magnetized.

When he sings, people listen. But even if David is just rambling, people listen…Even just looking at his pictures, you just see that this person is really something special. Some people say he has that “GLOW”. That is his “MAGNETIC FIELD”. Everyday, as his true fans increase in number, that magnetic field is expanding…… As we become attached to David’s magnetic field, we become magnets too………He makes me laugh, cry, smile, think and do good things and he makes me a better person.

That’s why I luv coming here to jD. I don’t know you guys, haven’t been met you personally ( wish I was there ) but I know deep in my heart you are all lovely people.. Because I know that people who really “get David” are all honest and people you can trust.. I do really consider you as my family efamily, wherein I tell you my problems.

Again thank you all!!!! rambling again….I better sleep now , it is now 1:38 am here in Sydney…..

Sorry long comment again….P.S. heard crush agin in my local Sydney station

  13. 13 vee60 April 2, 2009 at 11:03 am

P.S.S. if you want to read about the “green eyed monsters” that SF is talking about re: Snarkies interview ….

I think here in Australia I can say it is the case of tall poppy syndrome. “It is seen as a societal phenomenon in which people of genuine merit are criticised or resented because their talents or achievements elevate them above or distinguish them from their peers.”

Norman Feather, Emeritus Professor of Psychology at Flinders University, said ,“It ties in with the idea that people who put a lot of value on equality and conformity are probably more likely to want to see tall poppies fall. They have a view of society that people shouldn’t be very different in status,”.

Norman’s research also showed that if a tall poppy or high achiever is viewed as deserving their high status, if they’ve got to the top of the ladder courtesy of effort and ability, people are generally happy to let them stay where they are, but if seen as unworthy of their success there’s an impulse to want to cut them down to size.

  14. 14 mslv April 2, 2009 at 11:14 am

Thank you for the warm welcome. Really much appreciated.

Thank you TOFan for the wonderful post – and for proving that I made the right decision in joining this site. I can feel that the love all of you have is not only for David – it also embraces everyone who give out that love in return.

I am slowly moving forward – LIFE is really worth living, worth celebrating. We all have beautiful memories of people, things, and places – all worth remembering and keeping inside us forever. I feel that I now own a new heart filled with hope, faith and never-ending, never-fading seasons of LOVE.

Have a safe trip David and may you have the most beautiful experience here in Asia!

No time to comment on tofan’s lovely post, but this is a beautiful TBWY from SLC if you haven’t seen it.

vee60 – P.S.S. if you want to read about the “green eyed monsters” that SF is talking about re: Snarkies interview

I took you up on it…just read all 21 pages. There are three or four posters doing the “green eyed monster” thing repeatedly. The majority are positive. But because these few posters post over and over again to each other it seems like more.

mom – are you thisisyourmotherspeaking? If so, please let the snarky girls know they have the majority’s support. To press on!

  17. 17 renaid April 2, 2009 at 12:06 pm

What a beautiful post, Tofan. Oh how I would have loved to have been there. Someday. I love how David inspires us by his joy and his goodness even when we only get him through Youtube and the lovely posts by those who have been there. His mission is being done in a way that makes him and his fans so happy. I can’t wait to see what he does to the Brits when he tours with McFly.

  18. 18 betsy April 2, 2009 at 12:45 pm

    Beautiful Tofan. You captured it.

Watch this for around the 1:13 mark:
I hope I did that correctly!

  19. 19 Abrra April 2, 2009 at 12:59 pm

Very nice post TOfan. I am looking forward to the day when we can have a fanvention of justDavid friends. This site is like no other. This site was created for the purpose of talking to our online friends we met at nD. The fact that we all love David is frosting.

I started to read IDF and realized it was mainly trash talking nonsense.Seems like “drama queens” hang there. I have no worries that Snarkies will edit or pull anything they publish. They only asked many times and finally they got a “yes” is what appears to be the case. Good for them and good for the fan community.

  20. 20 davidfanLIZ April 2, 2009 at 1:15 pm

momjulee – I am sorry to have missed meeting you! I was so focused on Brett and Cindy when I ran into them at the E-Center that I literally didn’t even look at the table (where I now realize you were sitting.) One of my sisters bought us all Brett-bracelets, but dang it, I missed my chance to say hi. I’m sure there will be a next time! I look forward to it.

  21. 21 djafan April 2, 2009 at 1:16 pm

I took the liberty to bring this post over from the previous posts… someone delurking… welcome.

    kurt1960 April 2, 2009 at 12:56 pm

Seems I may have waited too long to delurk to post this, but I never saw anything wrong in any way regarding an older woman being a fan of a young singer. But, try being a 48 year old guy being a fan of an 18 year old male singer and see what kind of looks that’ll get ya! Do I care? no. Is it going to prevent me from following this amazing young man’s career? no. I know what I like and at this point in my life, I’m too damn old to care about what others may think of me. David’s voice and his music move my soul like nothing ever has before. He makes me feel like I’ve never felt before. If I am to be ridiculed for my fandom, so be it, Jedi.

  22. 22 davidfanLIZ April 2, 2009 at 1:28 pm

    Beautiful post, TOfan.

Yes to the beautiful mountains. I grew up in Salt Lake and those mountains are part of my genetic make-up. They are magnificent, powerful, in-your-face reminders of the true balance of the world. The mountains last weekend were covered in fresh snow and sometimes would be completely hidden in clouds and fog, only to emerge moments later, with bright blue sky behind them.

Yes to the incredible people that David brings together. I feel quite blessed to have met some lovely new David friends in SL and to have re-connected with others who are becoming dear friends.

What started for me as a solitary, YouTube watching connection has blossomed into a beautiful community of friends, some of whom I’ve had the pleasure to meet, and others who are still e-friends. What a lovely journey we are all on!

  23. 23 beebee April 2, 2009 at 1:43 pm

{{{TOfan}}} Sigh. It’s all rather amazing isn’t it? (And thank you for posting the wonderful SF vid!!!!!!)

I haven’t seen the fuss being kicked up about the snarky interview, but folks, remember these are probably KIDS.

For the record, I am so amazed and thrilled with that Snarky interview. ZOUNDS! Adore it! Hope they post the rest soon, and I trust them to edit as they see fit. (Love those girls.)

OH, and from the previous thread, kurt1960 I saw your post, and heard you loud and clear, and amen, brutha! It’s never too late to delurk, and there are guy fans here who will appreciate your presence as much as the rest of us. I hope you pipe in often.

    Must run now! *poof!*

  24. 24 sandybeaches2009 April 2, 2009 at 2:04 pm

TOfan… Thanks for the post of memories and can it be almost a week? I remember in the hotel at breakfast when you introduced yourself because you heard the words…”Zero Gravity”…and for sure we were part of the jD crowd…don’t we all love Zero Gravity…

I knew in the beginning that the finale in his home town would be extra special and then knew it would be phenominal when so many were able to be there…FOD’s Richard and his wife worked so hard organizing the events…this doesn’t happen often.

Silverfox…I also remember when you told us the concerts you were going to and wished that perhaps you had included SLC. I came back and said that you would regret missing the finale so give up one of the others if needed…not long after you had your tickets…I don’t believe that it took much prompting…

Well, there are memories to build on and seeing how good it was to get together we must hold it in our thoughts to do this again…especially since many were not able to be there. It can’t be a one time fanvention…

This week I can not get the songs out of my head and even a word can inspire the line of any song…

  25. 25 bebereader April 2, 2009 at 2:08 pm

    Beautiful post TOfan!

Thank you for sharing your SLC experience with us! What’s missing for the youtubers, who didn’t get to go is the ability to witness the fan gatherings in person. It warms my heart to hear about so many friendships made. This is a fringe benefit of being a fan of David Archuleta’s. Like attracts like. David attracts good people. All he wants to do is sing but without realizing it, his singing brings people together.

The “brotherhood of man” David sung about in “Imagine” has more of a message than we and maybe even David realize.

    “…..Imagine all the people
    Living life in peace…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

    Imagine no possessions
    I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
    A brotherhood of man
    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the world…

  26. 26 sandybeaches2009 April 2, 2009 at 2:24 pm

bebereader…I believe that it was understood without thinking for a moment that together we would share the laughter and love for David in SLC…it was a given…and to be repeated as I already said…I am sorry that those who would love to have been there were not…so the next time needs to be soon…

  27. 27 marlie7 April 2, 2009 at 2:39 pm

TOfan: Thank you for reminding me about my own opportunity to meet with you and other jD members at the Infinity concert. I only wish I had had more time to spend with you all. Next time!

To the Snarky’s: YOU RAWK! Don’t be intimidated by a couple of green-eyed monsters. I so enjoy reading your funny, smart, totally open postings and I’m glad you got to interview David. I can’t wait for you to post Part 2.

  28. 28 dawn65 April 2, 2009 at 2:51 pm

Oh poo.. I left a comment on Ytube how awesome I thought the interview was. I also commented that David appeared very comfortable.

I thought the interview rawked.. I was struck by his song writing process..and how he analyzes music.. that just fascinated me.

I thought it was high time people got a glimpse of the David we know exists.. he’s not just a pretty face (and a pretty face it is 8) ) .. but he’s HIGHLY intelligent.. and just a fascinating human being.

I also said snarkies rawk. I AM a member of snarkies..but never post …I post here…because you guys know me well enough not to call Jeff on me.. LOL.

    I’m only joking.

I haven’t had time to lurk anywhere today.. did David leave for Asia ? I can’t believe he’s going without Lupe and/or Jeff. Ray will take excellent care of him…I’m just hoping David is comfortable. I’m all for letting the babybird spread his wings..but dangit…he better come back safe and sound…undamaged.. just as we sent him over there.

Okay… I can’t rant.. I have to get back to work.

    Love ya TOFan !!!!

Proud jDer .. and don’t get me STARTED on the green eyed monsters…because I’m itching to vent.. it’s been a very hard week at work..and I’m ready to unleash some …Back off of David speeches.

I was over at IDF this morning trying to get through that post but it was 21 pages long! After 5 or 6 pages I headed out after I posted something, thanking them for their dedication to and generousity of all things David. I also told them that we appreciate all that they do for the fans.

    sandybeaches at 2:24 pm

Thank you! When David sang those lyrics, who could predict the power behind his words in bringing people together?! It was an appropriate song for him!

  32. 32 pabuckie April 2, 2009 at 3:10 pm

Kurt1960 – yes I too hope you post more often – I am the same age but I love hearing from the older males here too! It doesn’t matter male or female, race, etc….when it comes to JustDavid – he certainly is hope and love and I have never heard or seen anyone in my life that has affected me the way he does. The riffs and notes he sings just pierce my soul sometimes. Then, the next minute he can talk about onions and “look at his green -or not so green- thumb” and crack me up. Boy, do I love him. What a special person he is to have come into our lives and light up this world!!

  33. 33 silverfox April 2, 2009 at 3:21 pm

This is for David, in case he hasn’t left yet, or even if he has. It’s never too late to bid someone we love a fond farewell,

Bon Voyage, Arrivederci, Au revoir, Adios!

May your journey be happy, safe and all you hope and deserve it to be! May your positive and good Karma attract those with positive and good Karma! May you encounter goodwill and happiness! May you continue to be healthy and strong throughtout your journey in Asia. Take with you all our love, prayers and warm thoughts! We love you madly!

ahh.. Thank you SF.. I feel much better. You always come through when I need you.

Gosh I bet he’s excited..and nervous…and just bouncing off the ceiling about now.

It’s a 24 hour flight.. has he flown that far before?

Wow.. I need to calm down.

    I’m sure he’s perfectly fine.

  35. 35 angelofdja April 2, 2009 at 3:49 pm

Thanks Silverfox. AMEN to your prayer for David. I am just one of David’s other Mom’s, joining in the worry! I am sure Lupe is having the same cares and worries for his safety and well-being. I won’t be a 100% OK, until he is back here in the good ole U.S.A!
I do, however, hope he has the best of times! I will anxiously await any and all news from my fellow jD’ers on David’s journey’s in Asia.
It’s been awhile… but just wanted to reiterate how much I look forward to coming here to enjoy this ride with so many of those that “get” David. You all are such a pleasure to hang with.

  36. 36 dawn65 April 2, 2009 at 3:58 pm

angelofdja… I’m glad I can worry with others.. it makes me feel less weird.. LOL 8)

Aside from the worry.. and the fact that flying makes his voice “gaspier” than usual (remember the Atlanta airport blog) .. I am so thrilled for him to start making these journeys.

I don’t think there are many that will enjoy interacting with other cultures, or seeing what the rest of the world’s beauty holds as much as David. He inhales life…filters it out and exhales joy and peace for us to enjoy.

  37. 37 momjulee April 2, 2009 at 4:05 pm

You guys are awesome! DavidfanLIZ I can’t believe we were in the same spot and you didn’t say hi! Eek. So many things to do next time. And SF, I love being called quirky. It’s not the first time!

2nd part – Edits are good!

  38. 38 olemr2001 April 2, 2009 at 4:08 pm

angelofdja, AMEN to your AMEN to Silverfox’s prayer. I guess I must be just one of David’s other dads, trying not to worry.

  39. 39 silverfox April 2, 2009 at 4:21 pm

I was thinking how special David is. So special that even though he is a devout believer in God and his religion, he never preaches, never pushes his beliefs on anyone. So special that he attracts and is loved by non-believers and agnostics as much as his fans who are believers. So special, that by his example and his very existance, many have renewed their spirituality and have found a peace within themselves. I’m not saying he is an evangelist or on a mission to bring people to God. No, not at all! But I’m just saying, from my own personal experience…David is truly special. And all he wanted to do is sing!

I realize the prayers, blessings, or whatever you wish to call them, may be offensive to non-believers and I totally understand. So I ask all the non-believers to send your very best & sincere good wishes & thoughts to David for a safe journey.

I have a feeling he’s about ready to leave, or on his way as we speak. I may be wrong. It’s just a feeling.
I really must stop having those feelings! They drive me cra-zeh! 😆

  40. 40 angelofdja April 2, 2009 at 4:23 pm

Look what HE makes us do. (I wouldn’t have it any other way!) Ha! Ha!

  41. 41 TOfan April 2, 2009 at 4:26 pm

SF, sorry, I should have checked with you first before posting your video up top, but I LOVE it! And it reminds me how crazy wonderful this whole David ride is!

HG, “I had a blast last December, not just seeing David live for the first time, but actually meeting and putting faces to the screen names I’ve been interacting with here.” Me too! Little did I know, meeting you, Happy, Kizzi, ninaf, djb, bluebarsa and newangel with Refnaf after Northern Lights was the beginning of mini-fanventions to come (including Williamsville, Marlie7)!

    SB, ZG FTW!!

Hi momjulee, tell those snarky lovelies we’ve completely memorized Part 1 and need to see Part 2 at their earliest convenience… meaning NOW 😉

  42. 42 olemr2001 April 2, 2009 at 4:40 pm

I was curious, and someone else may be also, so the link is below.

Benton Paul playing the E Center March 27th, 2009.

  43. 43 freofan April 2, 2009 at 4:50 pm

I think it is highly likely that David is leaving today or tomorrow for Asia. I imagine that he will fly through LA, a little easier than flying East through NYC. I hope they have given him a day to relax and sleep when he first arrives.

  44. 44 dawn65 April 2, 2009 at 4:54 pm

gah .. I have to wait til I get home to see part 2.. DANGIT

AND I have to stop to pick up supplies for the CDs..

Good things come to those that wait right ?

SF.. funny thing you mentioned that.. I remember during the FIRST cellcast from VB..opening night.. I was in the waiting room for awhile.. and some troll was just being vile and crude and .. well we all started to let him/her have it.

I remember him/her saying.. “I’m only here to save your life.”

I replied.. Thank You..but David’s already done that.”

He/She replied back.. “David is NOT GOD.”

And I remember instantly thinking…”NO..he’s NOT God…but if anyone knows the way.. David does.”

Of course it was inappropriate to type at the time.. but I felt ok about sharing that just now.

  45. 45 Angelica April 2, 2009 at 4:59 pm

TOfan, thank you for the beautiful post of your experiences in SLC with the fans and that incredible concert. I know what you mean about Utah and the mountains. I lived in Provo for one year and the mountains were so close and, something which always caught me by surprise, ever-changing. You could turn away for one minute and look back up and they would be different colors. I missed them most of all when I left. I was living right off campus at BYU and took a half credit beginning jazz dance class just so I could get a student ID to use the library, pool/sauna, and foreign film theatre. 😆 Anyway, everything was going along fine until the instructer announced we would be required to learn Michael Jackson’s complete routine from the Thriller video. 😯 I have two left feet so I dropped that class and transferred to something else in a hurry. Utah truly is breath-taking and I hope to return for a visit someday.

David does “stand for something.” All the things you said and he truly is a force for good in this world. And now he’s off to conquer the world, going overseas for the first time in his life. Another milestone on an incredible journey we are on with him. It’s exciting to anticipate what kind of reception he will recieve. I hope they show him lots of love!

  46. 46 juliebug April 2, 2009 at 5:07 pm

TOFan – I think you missed up above. But the Snarkys have posted Part 2 already.

  47. 47 silverfox April 2, 2009 at 5:14 pm

TOfan..Actually, I’m flattered you chose the video. Thank you for thinking about it. Like I said, David makes me say & do things I never thought I would do again! How many white haired Abuelitas have YOU seen blasting David’s music in a car with the windows down in front of HUNDREDS of people, cruising around & around the lot with no embarrassment whatsoever! Just having a blast! Some people laughing, others shaking their heads.
What fun I had that day! Who knew I would be taped at the end of my cruise?

  48. 48 joymus April 2, 2009 at 5:24 pm

SF, DALiz – Hugs and sweet greetings to you!

I guess this is Lupe and Jeff’s sending David “off to college” moment. Lupe has had an opportunity to be separated from David weeks at a time but not Jeff as much. This must be a difficult moment for them both but most especially Jeff, this time around as David learns to fly solo – so to speak.

  49. 49 dawn65 April 2, 2009 at 5:24 pm

Okay.. let me just say this.

    I’m a worrier.

Just because I’m a worrier, that doesn’t cast doubt upon anyone’s ability, strength, character or lack thereof.

    I’m a mom…I’m a grandma… I worry about those dear to me.

I worry that Mariah (my 2 year old granddaughter doesn’t brush her teeth well enough all the time)

I worry that my youngest son will never get a cellphone of his own..and be on my plan until he’s 30.

    I worry about my oldest son…because he’s hard headed…extremely smart, beautiful..but still I worry.

I worry about David…because I love him too.. and I just show my love for him sometime by worrying.

That doesn’t imply if you DON’T’re not a good fan.. everyone shows things in different ways.

I worry.. just ask my kids.. I make them NUTS.

  50. 50 TOfan April 2, 2009 at 5:29 pm

Thanks, juliebug, I must still be on Utah time! lol

Angelica, I remember posting waaaay back during A.I. that David should get a commission from the local tourism board for being such a goodwill ambassador for his home state.

Little did I know that I’d be one of the tourists flocking there. But I’m so glad I did. Along with those hypnotizing, mesmerizing mountains, the warm, friendly, unaffected adorkable people of all ages I met reminded me of a certain someone. Hmmmm.

  51. 51 djafan April 2, 2009 at 5:34 pm

silverfox….thank you, thank you, I don’t if you realize how much your prayers posted here mean to me. Even though I say my own private prayers, having many pray for David is so powerful. Just wanted you to know how much I appreciate it.

I believe in intuition … and I get the feeling you have it by the buckets…I think you should join Angelica and HG, you’ve had the most “Close Encounters of the DAVID Kind”

dawn65 -And I remember instantly thinking…”NO..he’s NOT God…but if anyone knows the way.. David does.”

Of course it was inappropriate to type at the time.. but I felt ok about sharing that just now.

I think it’s more than ok… because I believe he just may know the way.

  52. 52 TOfan April 2, 2009 at 6:01 pm

As I (along with everyone else) wait patiently for vids from the overseas appearances, I want to publicly take back every complaint I’ve ever had about too many video cameras in concert venues. 🙂

  53. 53 davidfanLIZ April 2, 2009 at 6:30 pm

    joymus – Hi!!!

and TOfan – I’m with you on taking back complaints about the video cameras LOL! We will need documentation of these next concerts, please!!

  54. 54 davidfanLIZ April 2, 2009 at 6:30 pm

BTW – something new and wonderful is coming along soon…

  55. 55 refnaf April 2, 2009 at 6:47 pm

    Hey all,
Ditto to the taking back the camera complaints…. I can’t wait to see the Asia promos on vid. They will love him no doubt. I’m sure it will be a different experience for David, and seeing other cultures can be an eye opening step in a young person’s life.
Joymus I loved your comparison to the “sending off to college”
In my pic of David flying “solo” I see him soaring.
He is so musically wise already. He knows exactly what works for him, and I loved the way the snarky interviews shows this.

JR where are you? You must be soo excited….You are going to see him? right?

  56. 56 marlie7 April 2, 2009 at 6:51 pm

lol Marlie and DFL… NAW, FTW!

  59. 59 silverfox April 2, 2009 at 7:16 pm

Question.. Why is everyone saying David is going to Asia alone w/o his Dad/Manager? Was that info posted somewhere? Did I miss it? I find it very hard to believe Jeff is not accompanying David. I do know for sure Jeff is going to the UK, cuz he said so. But I have not seen or heard anything about Jeff not going to Asia. Not that I think David can’t handle himself “alone”. David handles a lot more behind the scenes than we will ever be aware of, but that’s not the point. I just think David would want his dad or mom to experience his first trip abroad as a Star! What did I miss?

  60. 60 goboywonder April 2, 2009 at 7:29 pm

I read that Ray will be going to Asia with David.

  61. 61 brooklyndawn April 2, 2009 at 7:32 pm

TOFan, I truly loved your post. The thought of honoring that powerful force for good in the world is an awesome commitment. It’s the least we can do for all of the love that this journey has inspired. That isn’t surreal at all, it’s totally REAL.

I am over the moon for the Snarky girls. I have lurked on their site so darn much, it’s the second place I go for all things David. They have a refreshing and sweet outlook on David and his career. I love the fangirling and the heartfelt emotions that simply ooze from them. I also love that they adore him and his physical beauty (even when they scoff at times), but that it never seems disrespectful or skeevy. They are awesome. I hate them, lol. There is nothing wrong with David doing an interview with them. I am sure he didn’t feel obligated, he was actually pretty relaxed and came off far more mature than in other interviews with people asking silly ass questions. Bravo to them.

IDF is a funny place. I read there sometimes. I started reading that thread and it just reminded me of a place known as the scary boards, (the official idol forum). So much drama, very little content at times. I have been a member there for so long I can’t remember, but I don’t think I’ve posted but a handful of times. It just seems like a sandlot. Too many kids….

  62. 62 brooklyndawn April 2, 2009 at 7:35 pm

Ohh, I just wanted to add. I really hope that Jeff doesn’t accompany David to Asia. I think Lupe wouldn’t mind having him home for a few weeks until the UK tour begins. I know for sure the girls probably miss their daddy something terrible, and maybe that is why someone else might accompany David at this time.

  63. 63 djafan April 2, 2009 at 7:38 pm

    davidfanLiz: Something new and wonderful…?????????

  64. 64 silverfox April 2, 2009 at 7:39 pm

goboywonder..yes, Ray is going as David’s Tour/Security manager. But has anyone read or heard Jeff is NOT accompanying David as well? Seems to me David will need more than Ray…no offense to Ray. This is a BIG DEAL. I just don’t think it’ll be just Ray & David. No way!

  65. 65 goboywonder April 2, 2009 at 7:40 pm

TOfan, your post reminds me of “Cheers” with Ted Danson, a place where everybody knows your name. I think is wasn’t so much the alcohol that kept the “regulars” coming back, but having a place to hang out where you know others know and understand what you are going through. These various fansites are sorta like that where our common bond, our love and appreciation for David, is what draws us together and keep us comin back for more.

  66. 66 juliebug April 2, 2009 at 7:42 pm

SF – I think it is semantics again. Someone asked if the “band” was going to Asia with David and Mike (Alex? Eli? – can’t remember which now) said no, just Ray was going. Ray being part of the “band” as tour manager. Jeff or Lupe are not part of the “band” so I don’t think that really clarifies whether Jeff or Lupe are going. I can’t imagine that at least one of them will not go along. I guess we’ll find out.

  67. 67 goboywonder April 2, 2009 at 7:47 pm

SF, I haven’t specially read that Jeff will not be going, but I did read somewhere someone was talking with Jeff about the Mcfly and their antics, and Jeff responded, “And that’s why I will be going with David the the UK”. I thought the emphasis was on will and took it to mean he wouldn’t be going to Asia. But I guess I am just surmising.

  68. 68 goboywonder April 2, 2009 at 7:55 pm

This could also be an opportunity where David could exercise his new adulthood. It’s not an extended trip, Ray seems pretty tough, but more importantly, David is very grounded.

  69. 69 marlie7 April 2, 2009 at 8:02 pm

Is Mike going with David? I thought they were doing some “acoustic” stuff.

  70. 70 djafan April 2, 2009 at 8:04 pm

In speaking to Alex in Pomona he said only Mike was going with him to Asia for acoustic performances.

  71. 71 djafan April 2, 2009 at 8:04 pm

Him meaning band member…don’t know about Jeff or Lupe.

  72. 72 LittleM April 2, 2009 at 8:14 pm

I recall in Alex’s video chat he said the band and then just Mike were supposed to go with David but for financial reasons they are not. I took it to mean even Mike would not be going along…he probably wants to spend some time with his baby too before going to the UK

I’m proud of David going with Ray, if that is the case! I went on a high school trip to Europe when I was a teen…40 of us only chaperoned by a few teachers. It was a great time and it’s these types of experiences that help you tip your toe into adulthood…I think the trip to Asia is a perfect first step for David. Hope he gets some time to explore the UK on his own or with the McFly boys too while he is there 🙂

  73. 73 silverfox April 2, 2009 at 8:15 pm are a teaser! 😆

    juliebug…I get it now. Thanks.

brooklyndawn, goboywonder.. I know what you both are saying, but David “needs” someone, a manager to handle incidentals like transportation, hotels, food, wardrobe, things like that. It really has nothing to do with David being an adult, but more about David having other more important things to think about than those incidentals. I know I tend to make mountains out of what should be serene, rolling hills! 😆

  74. 74 goboywonder April 2, 2009 at 8:22 pm

SF, “…but David “needs” someone, a manager to handle incidentals like transportation, hotels, food, wordrobe, things like that.” Perhaps someone like Ray?

  75. 75 river992 April 2, 2009 at 8:29 pm

For anyone who hasn’t seen it, the dear video of David and Leslie visiting the Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio is quite moving. David is so sweet and natural with these little children who are obviously quite ill and also shy. I found it extremely touching.
It’s posted on snarky. I tried to bring the link over… sorry.
I’m sort of assuming it’s just Ray and Mike with David, as Jeff was overheard in SLC after the concert saying he was not going.

  76. 76 juliebug April 2, 2009 at 8:31 pm

goboywonder – He needs more than Ray. Ray will have his hands full just dealing with the radio stations, venues, etc.

  77. 77 davidfanLIZ April 2, 2009 at 8:35 pm

    SF – moi?

  78. 78 Angelica April 2, 2009 at 8:38 pm

Bringing this over from Snarkies. Bold is mine. I love the fact that he is much more in control than most of us thought. Notice too, the 2nd part of the Snarky interview, 7.40 onward as he talks about the venue choice and how he exerted his will on that issue. And this is random, and I can’t help that I love it, but I do…Zero Gravity, Virginia Beach, Starrynites_watch his face at .47 He looks back, encounters something he’s not thrilled about? Check his facial expression as he’s putting the ear piece in. I don’t care what it’s about, probably nothing much, that’s not the point. The point is I have to keep replaying it just for that look. For some reason, it makes me very happy. He will always be the sweetest guy in the world. But he’s so serious about his work and, I believe, very much in control.

    From Snarkys:

if i learned anything from this past weekend, or from this past solo tour in general, it’s that david has a LOT more control over his career than people give him credit for. even back in january, talking to mike gave me that impression. but it’s like every day i learn more and more and it’s not just bs people are spewing, saying, “oh yes, david’s the boss.” david IS the boss. he’s not shy to say if he doesn’t like something — like if his vocals are imperfect on WFY or ALTNOY and he does not approve. he knows that he’s writing songs so they get on the radio so they can get spins. he knows that week or so before the current album was due, that it was all about WRITING. A. SONG. NOW. sure, he can be a space cadet, but i’m seriously shocked at how grounded in reality he actually is. i think the constant smile and giggle throw people off. you sometimes worry he’s a little puppet being pulled along. no matter how many times someone insists he’s the boss, he’s stubborn, he knows what he wants, you sometimes have to worry.

i’m not worried anymore. he knows what he wants. just go with what people have been saying all along: trust the archuleta. und alles gut!

betsy, 12:45, thanks for that — why does a 2 second mention on a random pop culture round-up make me smile?

vee60, 11:00, “A permanent magnet is one made from a material that stays magnetized.” Cool. That does sound like David.

SF, I’m glad you’re okay with the video (and with becoming an honourary Canadian when Refnaf & I waved our flags over your head, lol). And I’m with you on the need for a more personal manager on this tour. Someone’s gotta carry his gift bags! 🙂

  80. 80 silverfox April 2, 2009 at 8:42 pm

Ray is a Tour/Security manager. He will have enough on his plate making sure security is good before David appears anywhere. David’s safety is Ray’s first priority and should be. David will need someone else, doesn’t necessarily have to be Jeff, to handle things David should not have to worry about, is all I’m saying. No way it’s going to be just David (haha!) and Ray.

  81. 81 river992 April 2, 2009 at 8:47 pm

I came away so impressed with the 2nd part of the Snarky video. There is NO doubt that David is very involved in decision making in all aspects of his career. That section on venue selection in SLC was clearly “we wanted… we negotiated….etc”. Oh yeah, he’s the boss. Answers were detailed and exact, if a little distracted by what appeared to be a text. After I had seen this I had an incident in my high school office today that amused me. A senior boy came in to ask me a question and as I was answering he was looking at his Blackberry dying to answer a text. I said, “Yo… dude… over here” and he sheepishly put it down and said “sorry”.. It’s just the way it is.

  82. 82 debra5354 April 2, 2009 at 8:49 pm

    Hello All.

Its been awhile since I have posted. Have been through the loss of my mother after a long illness, but was lurking all during Rascal’s shutdown and was too emotional to participate.

Am glad you have put up this site as it fills an empty hole. Rascal’s site was a constant for me every day just to check in and see how all of you were doing and to get the latest on David.

olemr2001 “This morning I went ahead and downloaded the starrynites audio of the full SLC concert.” HOW did you do this?
I have been “hypnotized and mesmerized” by Bretts SLC videos on utube and would be thrilled to have the audio on my ipod. Many Thanks.

  83. 83 goboywonder April 2, 2009 at 8:56 pm

juliebug, He needs more than Ray. Ray will have his hands full just dealing with the radio stations, venues, etc.

SF, I’m saying. No way it’s going to be just David (haha!) and Ray.

I guess it is does seem quite a strech for him to go with just Ray especially since it’s his first time traveling so far away.

  84. 84 goboywonder April 2, 2009 at 9:05 pm

I’m sure David is very excited to be traveling abroad.

    debra5354, sorry for your loss.

  85. 85 silverfox April 2, 2009 at 9:06 pm

These videos of David backstage just before he performed in MSG, shows how he is in control, IMO, when Jeff walks away, leaving David alone. Then the second video shows David handling a problem with his earphone. He didn’t ask dad for help. David showed, again IMO, how very much in control he is. Jeff seemed to know instinctively to back off. Nuff said. Jeff travels with David in order to handle the incidentals so David can do what he’s there to do. This is all JMO as I interpret the videos. Others may see it differently.

I’ve never doubted that David knows what he wants, has specific goals & knows how to achieve those goals. He may be surprised at how quickly he is achieving some of his goals, so he just sets a higher goal for himself. He is a genius and will never be satified with mediocrity. He will always have high standards for his work and his life.

  86. 86 dawn65 April 2, 2009 at 9:18 pm

From what I’ve heard, there aren’t any venues… David is doing just some promo stuff over there.

David is very seasoned… he’s been doing this for a very long time… he’ll be okay.

I do hope Jeff stays home with the family until the UK. It’s had to be very tough on the family. Jeff’s been gone quite a bit for the last year.

  87. 87 valbraz April 2, 2009 at 9:20 pm

Beautiful post! Brought tears to my eyes.
I can’t wait to hear from David experiences abroad. Hope he has a lot of rest before taking the world by storm.
    Love this site!

  88. 88 LittleM April 2, 2009 at 9:23 pm

Hi Silverfox – good point about the incidentals. Perhaps the Sony/BHG Asia staff helps out with that while he is in their area? Maybe he will have Ray and a locally-based assistant or two. After all, there is also the language barrier in arranging lodging, transportation, food, etc…just a thought

  89. 89 happy April 2, 2009 at 9:30 pm

TOfan- cameras suck, except in Reno… and maybe Deluth. 😉

  90. 90 silverfox April 2, 2009 at 9:31 pm

LittleM..that’s an excellent idea..but I still think Jeff (or maybe even Lupe, though doubtful) will be going too. Best scenario would be for Jive to have another manager accompany David. That way both mom & dad can be home for the rest of the kids, and David can exert his independence and celebrate adulthood! Our MAN David! And what a man he is! 😉

  91. 91 LittleM April 2, 2009 at 9:44 pm

silverfox – I agree! Maybe his manager Jared Paul could accompany him too? 😉

  92. 92 swankycat April 2, 2009 at 9:49 pm

Thanks for a great post TOfan. Our adorkable nugget is the glue that is holding this global love train together. Feels nice.

I’d like to see Jeff be able to spend some quality time at home with the family before the UK too. Jeff is part of David’s management, but there are others who also are on his management team. Surely they will send someone to take care of logistics like lodging and transportation and a local will escort him at each stop. I think this could be a very good thing for David to enjoy a bit of independence.

Ya know Angelica.. I don’t think I’d worry about my sons.. but I know my sons.. David…as well as we “know” him… is a gigantic void of unknowns.

I’m not worried.. I’m pissed…I want him back dangit..

    I’m only kidding… I’m a little feisty tonight.

He’s enjoying his fame.. I’m thrilled for him. I’m confident he’ll be fine.

It’s just we haven’t heard from him.. and that adds to the apprehension.

Dear David.. please phone home.. everyone is worried.

Sorry for your loss. I have been there myself many years ago. Welcome back.
Stay tuned. Something really nice is coming soon. You can have a nice Cd of the tour made from various audio sound from YouTube. It’s not ready quite yet……….

SF – “I’ve never doubted that David knows what he wants, has specific goals & knows how to achieve those goals. He may be surprised at how quickly he is achieving some of his goals, so he just sets a higher goal for himself. He is a genius and will never be satified with mediocrity. He will always have high standards for his work and his life.”

Reminds me of what Cook said once when asked about David. Something like “He is very goal oriented. He sticks to the plan and does not deviate.”

Abrra, Thanks so much. I anticipate driving in my car and listening to the concert with big silly grin on face.

I was so struck by David’s demeanor during the interview. A boy no longer. It was a little sad somehow seeing how he has matured from the early interviews of awkward, bashful, spacey, tongue tied with giggles.

  101. 102 joymus April 2, 2009 at 10:19 pm

I really wanted to compliment you on your fine, fine post. Apart from it being wonderful, it is also so true. During my little interlude in Albuquerque, it was wonderful talking about David with people who “get” him for hours on end. It made me feel so very happy inside,as does the warm friendships forged on this site.
    Thank You to All!

  102. 103 freofan April 2, 2009 at 10:20 pm

I totally agree. David is old enough now to travel on his own without parents, and he has other people in his band and management to travel with him. I’m not going to say anything else because I don’t want to come off as judgmental about people I don’t even know, but I think it’s a good thing that Jeff is home with the fam.

  103. 104 Angelica April 2, 2009 at 10:24 pm

Yes! I loved that too. The way he changes to David, the performer, the consummate professional in an instant.

  104. 105 marlie7 April 2, 2009 at 10:25 pm

Angelica 8:38 Wow, I never noticed that look. He almost seemed to be scowling at someone or something. The look said, “Don’t even…” I’m speculating of course, but that was quite a different David – and I’m glad to see it.

  105. 106 freofan April 2, 2009 at 10:27 pm

I wish David would go with the just the band and his tour manager (Ray) to the UK, too. He can handle McFly, I am quite sure.

  106. 107 Abrra April 2, 2009 at 10:30 pm

I am making you a Cd of the SLC concert from that file. I can include it with the tour one, just for you 🙂

  107. 108 LittleM April 2, 2009 at 10:32 pm

freofan – I agree with you 100% about the UK…was kinda bummed to hear Jeff joke about him needing to go along to protect D from the McFly boys’ antics, even if he was joking. I mean, imagine the songs David would come up with after hanging with the McFly’s??? 😀

  108. 109 silverfox April 2, 2009 at 10:32 pm all honesty, I’m a little surprised the pic of David with President Monson was posted at Snarky’s. David had a private audience with the head of the Mormon church. Truly a huge honor and the pic is obviously something David will treasure for the rest of his life. It’s akin to a Catholic having a private audience with the Pope. Was it something he wanted to share just yet? Then again the pic had to been given to Snarky’s by David or someone close to David. So I’m hoping David is OK with it. FOD doesn’t even have it…yet.

mslv & debra, Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss.

mslv..the loss of a child is the biggest & deepest heartache a parent will ever go through. I am so glad you were able to find some solace listening to David’s glorious voice.

Debra..on the other end of the spectrum, the loss of a parent, no matter what age WE are, also leaves a void in our lives.

Hopefully you both can find some semblance of peace through David’s music. The Voice has healing powers. Many of us are proof of it. {{{hugs to you both}}}.

    Good night everyone! For David…

    Dear Lord,
Please take care of David. Watch over him, protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his Archangels do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey. Keep David and HIS VOICE healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray.

David, sweet dreams. Be safe & secure in our love always! Contigo siempre con amor!

Hey Silverfox – I wondered about that too, but the source of the pic is an article about their meeting from the Deseret News. Did you know that newspaper is owned by the LDS church? So it seems the photo was approved by the church for release if it was printed in that paper…

SF Amen and sweet dreams, my friend.

  116. 117 juliebug April 2, 2009 at 10:49 pm

SF – The pic accompanied an article in the Deseret News. It was a news item in general circulation.

Guys – I realize you all want David to “go it alone”. You have all just been thrilled to hear that David is IN CHARGE. Yet…?

I have no doubt that if David didn’t want Jeff or Lupe there, they wouldn’t be. If they are, it’s David’s decision. And you’ve decided to trust that. So trust that. I doubt if many of you wanted your children to be COMPLETELY independent of you all of a sudden. What makes you think David WANTS to be completely independent of his parents at this point in time? He’s navigating uncharted waters. Sometimes you need someone there you trust to bounce things off of. Heck, at my age I STILL want my mom there when something big is going down. I’ll be heartbroken when the time comes and she’s no longer there for me to bounce things off of. When he feels comfortable enough to go it alone, I have no doubt at all that he will. He’s stubborn remember? I’ve already seen evidence of his starting to pull away in little glimpses we’ve seen in different behind the scenes vids. No need to throw him in the deep end to sink or swim, if he’d rather wade for a while.

  117. 118 freofan April 2, 2009 at 10:52 pm

I thought the Deseret news was a local suburban SLC newspaper? Didn’t realize it was church owned. Also, could all the members of the band go in the temple? Not all of them are affiliated with that religion. If someone knows what would be protocol for that situation, I’d be interested in knowing.

  118. 119 silverfox April 2, 2009 at 10:52 pm

I am relieved it was publicized by the newspaper! As I said, it had to be one of the highlights of David’s life thus far. Maybe nothing will ever surpass that honor in David’s heart, so I was very happy he had that honor. David deserved it.

    Good night all!

Liz..I still think you are a teaser! 😉

  119. 120 freofan April 2, 2009 at 10:54 pm

LittleM, Yes, it’s probably best I don’t get started about the McFly topic, but suffice to say that I don’t think he needs to be protected, and I think they could even end up friends.

  120. 121 davidfanLIZ April 2, 2009 at 10:57 pm

SF – I think that David and his family meet with President Monson at Homecoming also. They met then, as they did this time, not in the temple, but just in the church offices.

  121. 122 Angelica April 2, 2009 at 11:04 pm

I like watching him grow and take more control of his business and artistic endeavors. I think all young people should be given independence as they prove they can be trusted, and David certainly has proven that. That’s just part of growing up and we are privileged to be fans of someone who is young enough that we can witness the metamorphoses from boy to man.

Having said that, I do not want David separated from his Mom or Dad till he is ready. I like the fact that Jeff is going with him to the UK. It makes me feel better to know that someone will be there who is totally in his corner and cares only for his well-being.

  122. 123 sandybeaches2009 April 2, 2009 at 11:16 pm

Wow…i woke up a little time ago and realized that a week ago tonight I was there waiting to meet everyone…and I am still not together yet since then…I am trying …

So,David may even be on his way to Asia, like how many days have I been asleep? It makes me nervous and my eyes became wide when I read that he may be going already…

TOfan…the video really captures the full essence of silverfox doesn’t it? I clearly saw the flags…but where was silverfox? Now I know that she was hidden in the flags…I thought that she had been given a place nearer to the stage…somehow…

davidfanLIZ…???…can you give us a hint at all??? I think that right about now, we can stand something great and exciting to take place…JUST A HINT?

Thank you for the prayers for David silverfox as he embarks on this new and exciting journey…We will see David in yet another light when he returns…

jr4da–has the matrix been completed? I’m not finding a link here for it, and wondered if I’ve missed it somewhere or if it isn’t completed yet.

I have the megaupload in my VLC, but am wondering how to burn it to a cd.

  132. 133 Angelica April 3, 2009 at 12:07 am

I’ve been told that mediafire is basically a shareware site, so it can cause viruses, but whenever I do a McAffe scan ( did a major one the other day) I haven’t had anything show up. That’s just what a techie told me because I get the same pop-ups.

    (OMG the screams)

  136. 137 sandybeaches2009 April 3, 2009 at 12:18 am

Thanks everyone for your responses in regards to the megaupload site…I guess I will have to search it out a bit…

  137. 138 Abrra April 3, 2009 at 12:20 am

    To any who have McAffe
McAfee became like a virus to me itself. I ditched it long ago. Too sensitive and thinks everything is bugged. i am using Avast! free anti virus now, I don’t have problems with any pop ups. Every program you install tells you to turn off virus protection before installing. The reason is they see problems where there are none.
I got the file and now have the CD.

  138. 139 blisskasden April 3, 2009 at 12:21 am

TOfan, I’m curious about something. When i was waiting to meet David on 11/11 outside of Virgin Records, there was a woman from Toronto who had flown in to NYC that day for the same purpose. I was on the line with a mother and daughter from Maryland and a wonderful lady from Queens named Pat. I had stopped by the line to talk to people who had waited for hours to get in to see David, and Pat was nice enough to sneak me into the line, which by this time extended around the corner and up the block. Everyone was as nice and friendly as could be and we all had a great time together.

Pat, by the way, is known here as pabuckie, and is one of David’s most loyal and adoring fans. If not for her generosity in letting me into the line, I would not had the joy of meeting David and telling him personally how much I loved and respected him as both a person and an artist.

So, was that you on that line ? If it was, it was a pleasure meeting you then. If not, it’s a pleasure meeting you now.

  139. 140 sj6179 April 3, 2009 at 12:42 am

FreoFan – to answer your question about the temple, no, they would not have gone inside the actual temple. In Salt Lake City there is a very large visitors center on Temple Square where there are several buildings including the Temple and beautiful grounds as well. They were most likely visiting there and also the Tabernacle which is the old building which used to be the place where the Tabernacle Choir sings not sure if they are still there or in a newer building called the Conference Center. They hold a church or “General Conference” in the new building where the top leaders of the church, including President Monson, speak. It is broadcast twice a year. It is actually held this weekend and will be broadcast all over the world. The church office building is also across from Temple Square. Hope that answers your question.

SF 11:50 Sorry to be a tease… Changes will happen in the next week.

  142. 143 emmiegirl April 3, 2009 at 1:06 am

SF, Angelica – inclined to agree. With all the logistics involved, not to mention security, I personally would feel much better if Jeff was there. Don’t feel that his traveling anywhere can be compared with that of a regular college student. I feel he will have plenty of opportunities for independence, and right now am more concerned about security and such.

Remembering at a radio station appearance in Florida where he was playing keyboard on the deck,it was crammed with an unsafe number of people and even some fans on the ground had concerns about it not being able to hold the load and was afraid it would come crashing down. According to some there, it was Jeff who suggested they get off the deck and go inside downstairs for the duration of the appearance.

tofan – please add me to the list of those who loved your post and especially this,
‘David’s music may be brilliant and beautiful but like all great art, it also stands for something. He stands for something — hope, truth, honesty, but most of all love, pure love.’

SF – have never told you how hysterically wonderful that youtube video was to me the first time I saw it last summer, how I envied you for your courage and admired you for your love.

  143. 144 betsy April 3, 2009 at 1:09 am

It’s official. My Windows media player is broken.
It’s a sad day when you lose all your David favorites.
    I tried everything.
I tried to reinstall it but it is still installed. Just not working.

  144. 145 peruu April 3, 2009 at 1:09 am

“You know, it’s not all just about music for me….” This coming from David Archuleta? Better see it.

What a wonderful piece, TOfan! “He stands for something — hope, truth, honesty, but most of all love, pure love.” He certainly inspires me to love more, and show more love. And the love that is being felt right here, is really something.

  145. 146 fandaforeverti48 April 3, 2009 at 1:21 am

SB1201 – actually that is where I think I picked up the win32conflicker worm. It appeared as a prompt for update to windows. So I allowed it. I have McAfee, too. They sent a warning & so I scanned & found the virus. Thought I had fixed it (according to McAfee) but really could not remove it. Had to have my computer cleaned. So be careful.

  146. 147 Angelica April 3, 2009 at 1:21 am

    I hope SF reads this.

“how I envied you for your courage and admired you for your love.”

I don’t think anyone could be paid a higher compliment than that.

  147. 148 sj6179 April 3, 2009 at 1:46 am

betsy – did you go to the add or remove programs and uninstall before you tried to re-install? – I think your actual media files should be saved separately from the player, they are probably still somewhere on your computer.

  148. 149 peruu April 3, 2009 at 1:55 am

HG, you started to talk about Adam Lambert earlier….

I happen to like Adam. I really love his “Track of my tears.” And then I saw the AI video in which he talked about his time before AI; how he had to hustle: serving food, folding clothes, until he got another gig. I started to think about what Rascal said before, that AI, with all its baggage, was the perfect platform for David to launch his musical career. I am so happy that David does not have to go through what Adam had gone through. In that sense, I have a tender feeling towards Adam.

But in general, I could not stand it when singers scream out their glory notes. Some of them show everything inside their mouths. Adam does not show what’s inside his mouth. David never screams. David is always in control.

In early Season 7 of AI, David, when asked why he should be the next American Idol, said, “by just being myself.” At that time, I thought he was quite egoistic. But after watching him in the last year, I got it. Yes, by being honest, true to oneself, true to people, that is what being an idol is about.

That is why, David is irreplaceable. That is why we love him so much. That is why we love each other so much here.

I love you all. You are so ??? Things you guys say here, make me laugh and smile so much, or feel so sad, or so worried, stay in my head so long. You guys have no idea.

(After staying dry for a few days, I am glad that finally I find a window to post…. the kids are in bed.)

  149. 150 Angelica April 3, 2009 at 2:08 am

For anyone who has a Zune account, you can burn right from that account. Just drag songs to CD icon on bottom left. When it’s complete then double click the icon. Most of my CD-R’s are 80 min. so they’ll cover the SLC starrynites.

Also made up my own deluxe version of DAVID ARCHULETA to include all the bonus tracks – including WFY, Falling, LMG, SOT, WFM, STD and the Blast off Crush. The only studio song I’m missing is Zero Gravity. Didn’t want to put the partial one on.

Betsey – if you go to where your computer lists what is in your computer, there should be a music folder. You can copy & patse songs from one folder to another, as well.

  154. 155 fandaforeverti48 April 3, 2009 at 3:12 am

I did pay for the original Deluxe Version (2) of DA CD. Just added the bonuses from different folders/albums/website downloads. Just wondering, when they count his sales of CD/downloads, do they seperate the different versions – regular like from Amazon, Walmart, itunes preorder, itunes deluxe? I know itunes & Zune list the refular & deluxe seperate on their charts. I don’t believe Cook had more than one album & it only had like 10 or 12 songs. Not that it matters, I guess.

  155. 156 fandaforeverti48 April 3, 2009 at 3:29 am

I checked the link that I used to download the full SLC concert yesterday, and it no longer seems to be available. However, I did notice that later Abrra said she could make a CD of that concert for you. Thanks, Abrra!

Following up on my remarks yesterday about ALTNOY and the WYOY audience charts, I noticed this morning that it is ranked #73. And Cook’s “Light On,” which had been at or near #1 daily for the last few weeks, seems to have disappeared entirely. These charts are a mystery to me.

A 10 minute video of David’s performance in Pomona, CA

    pretty good sound.

  161. 162 freofan April 3, 2009 at 8:38 am

He is leaving this morning? There’s one flight to Hong Kong from LAX earlier today. Oh, god, I am just awful, aren’t I? Honestly, I am so excited for him and I checked so I could be thinking of him at that time. I remember my first time traveling so far abroad.

  162. 163 sandybeaches2009 April 3, 2009 at 8:43 am

fandaforever48…Thanks for the notice…I left the site quickly after the warnings and will stay away because that is where the viruses creep in…so dangerous…

So, David is leaving in just a few hours…I can see tracking beginning today…Take Care David…

Did you look in the Troubleshooting section user help on the media player?
I have version 11, it’s the most recent. When I had issues in my RealPlayer, I had to uninstall then reinstall. The mediabase (songs etc) were not touched but i got a box that said I had to repair. I clicked the box and everything worked after repair. Not familiar how WMP works, but maybe something similar is in help.

    olemr2001 April 3, 2009 at 6:49 am
Yes I do have a CD of SLC made for debra5354. Will include it for her when requesting begins for Tour CD.

  164. 165 freofan April 3, 2009 at 8:47 am

I think we can be thinking of David at 3 p.m. local time in LAX today. So excited for him! I remember the excitement I felt when flying to Australia and Asia for the first time!

  165. 166 hell0g0rge0us April 3, 2009 at 8:48 am

Good morning everyone! I just woke up from David Dream #11. Must have been the earlier discussion on the Snarky girls (who would make excellent journalists if this is their professional goal) because I dreamed I was mentoring some young female students on their journalistic and multimedia skills and “just for fun” and practice, it seems that I hooked them up with an interview with none other than David Archuleta. Don’t remember how I made this happen, but somehow it happened!

And David was so nonchalant and friendly, and so my students – who first were awe-struck – calmed down enough to do an interview with him. There were three of them – one to ask the questions, one who was audio-recording, and another who was video-recording. I was there to supervise but also to “fangirl” myself. ha ha!

It looked like the interview took place in a nice swanky little apartment (David’s or a friend’s? Not clear really). Anyway, of all the things he said, I only remember one comment in response to the question: “how famous do you want to be?”

David’s reply: “Well if fame means living on main street, I think I want to live like 10 blocks away.”

    Hmmmmm. I’m still pondering this.

Oh boy! Is David on his way to Asia or is he already there? I wish him safe travels and a very successful overseas tour! 🙂

Ebonyangel, radio stations picking up or considering picking up ZG is music to my ears (no pun intended).

  166. 167 sandybeaches2009 April 3, 2009 at 9:14 am

I just saw on a Singapore site that BMG refused his flight and hotel information fans were eagerly looking for…

I also noticed that his songs are doing better on the charts there then in the US…lost the site but I believe that ALTNOY is #1 with another #3…

We will learn along with him how much he is adored by their fans and a good reason why he is going there…they are excited…

“Looking forward to flying out tomorrow morning! this will be my first ever visit to Asia! first stop will be Singapore. by david on 11:28 AM 3 April 2009″

I am soooooo…. excited to see that…OMG !!! counting the days, I am going to see him on 7 April. David will be here , walking on the same soil, breathing the same air !!! I just cant believe this !!!

I’m so sorry for the loss of your mother. Welcome to the club nobody wants to be a member of. Glad you’re back here!

Sandybeaches2009 at 8:43 am I happpened to download the SLC concert from a Snarkies or FOD link. I can’t recall which now. It plays beautifully and when I ran a virus scan on it, it came back clean. If you want a copy, I’d be glad to email it to you.

Ebonyangel Thank you for those twitter links! Hearing ZG on the radio put a huge smile on my face. 😀 Looking forward to more radio plays!

Wishing David a safe journey and a successful tour in Asia!

    junnie4dja at 9:16 am
Welcome: I can hear the excitement in your voice and am so happy that you’re going to see David! Take good care of him!
As you can see, we absolutely adore him!

  169. 170 junnie4dja April 3, 2009 at 9:29 am

Yes, we have been trying so hard to get his flight details but unable to !!!!

Yes, we are VERY VERY EXCITED that he is coming, we have made t-shirts, design by fsteven, some of you may be familar with his previous poster design on David’s song.

We have made a big banner to welcome him and we are going to show him how his international fans LOVE him.

I was prepared to fly up to Malaysia to see him again on 11 Apr as he was scheduled to perform there but was very very disappointed to find out today I was unable to get hte album which has the pass to the gig, all the albums were sold out within the day !!

  170. 171 Abrra April 3, 2009 at 9:37 am

    junnie4dja April 3, 2009 at 9:29 am

Welcome! I hope you don’t mind if we impose on you to be our eyes and ears for the Asian trip? We want LINKS to everything he does. Sometimes a regular fan on on the ground has access to news that doesn’t get picked up beyond local media.

We are feeling a bit protective of our STAR traveling half way around the world. You will finally get a glimpse of how gentle and kind he is, not to mention “that boy can sing”.

  171. 172 junnie4dja April 3, 2009 at 9:37 am

    Thank you !

I look forward to sharing my experience with you guys and also share with you David’s excitement and joy when he is here next week.

    Abrra April 3, 2009 at 9:29 am

Thank you and no I dont mind at all, in fact, I will be delighted to share my joy with all of you here just as I have enjoyed reading all your posts on this site. Except, you may have to excuse me for I will not be as eloquent as most of you guys here are .

No worries, pictures speak a thousand words, I have prepared myself to take tons of pictures and hopefully videos as well ! I have taken a day off day on 7 Apr and will be there in the morning to get a good spot !

  173. 174 angelofdja April 3, 2009 at 10:14 am

junnie4dja, No worries about speaking eloquently on this site! Some of us are just “plain ole gushers”! (like me). Happy to have you join this “slightly irreverent” group!
We are all looking forward to WHATEVER David related “stuff” you can bring to us! Thanks in advance!

  174. 175 freofan April 3, 2009 at 10:15 am

It is scarily not hard to find out flight information from the most likely final departure airport, and just do some educated guessing. He will be so touched when he meets the international fans!

Here is a lovely visual for everyone this morning.

    Lost – David Archuleta

    song called “Lost” by Anouk

  176. 177 silverfox April 3, 2009 at 10:25 am

Liz..teaser! 😉 , The visit with President Monson was very different and very special this time according to someone who was there and told someone else about it, who then told me and brought me to tears when I heard about it. It was very different than the “homecoming” visit.

emmiegirl 1:06..WOW! Thank you for the compliment! It’s very easy to love someone like David. It’s as natural to me now as breathing. 😆

The anticipation and excitement in Asia for David is being felt even here in the U.S.

Please Ray, be ever vigilant in protecting David. There may be mobs of fans wanting just to touch him! (Remember the mob at the high school running after him in the rain, no less, in Columbus?). I think this will be what David will be encountering in Asia.
So Ray! Take extra precautions for David. Keep him safe from his adoring fans who would never intentionally hurt him. Who just simply want to touch their beloved World Idol. Who can blame them? But we expect you to bring David home safe & sound!!

  177. 178 djafan April 3, 2009 at 11:08 am

fandaforeverti48 – thanks to my daughter, I couldn’t have held anything in my hands.

beebee – I’m uploading WFY this one is complete, thanks you. I’ll post the link when done. I will LEARN how to do…I need new software. The free software blocks me from rotating and sends me to the buy this. VLC player lets me rotate while viewing, but when I close and re-open it’s side ways again.

junnie4dja – yes…we’d greatly appreciate your eyes in ears. About the writing, don’t even think about it. That held me back for months.

    Lovin’ the snarky interview.

abrra– how about a SLC cd–I can’t find in VLC how to make one. Patience is not my strongest virtue–especially with tech stuff. I’m always afraid I’m really going to mess something up. BTW–the megaupload file is gone.

  184. 185 TOfan April 3, 2009 at 11:52 am

HG, what a dream! ““Well if fame means living on main street, I think I want to live like 10 blocks away.” I can so hear David saying that! haha

Bliss, no, twas not I in NYC, unfortunately. I would have loved to have been there that day, though, and to have met you, as well!

Abrra, thanks for the mp3 link, I won’t be able to download it till I get home tonight (if it’s still up that is!)… will also have to wait to watch the end of the Snarky Three-quel, dang it!

  185. 186 blisskasden April 3, 2009 at 12:13 pm

TOfan, thanks. It was a longshot. You would have loved that day, but there have been and will be so many more.

I love David’s quote about fame. He knows the difference between fame and fulfillment, and realizes that fame is an ego driven illusion worthy of keeping his distance. (10 blocks is about right). I think we are finally nearing the end of the “lettuce boy” era of interview questions. Expect more of that piercing “Michael Buble” glare if David gets asked any these inane, disrespectful questions in the future.

  186. 187 sandybeaches2009 April 3, 2009 at 12:42 pm

junnie4dja…On this site and on the others here we have expressed our admiration so effectively that anyone in the world who can understand English can understand how much we care for the young man from Utah…and we of course have concerns and hopes that he will be shown the greatest of respect. We would be concerned about that wherever he would travel…

So, that will be good to have any reports that you have and we look forward to them…

Jokingly of course…if need be to check anything that is amiss…we will charter our own plane…silverfox will be behind the wheel (with her hands gripped ready for take-off) and we will draw straws for the co-pilot chair…First stop will be Halifax to pick me up…many overseas planes stop here for fuel anyway…hopefully that will not be needed…

  187. 188 sandybeaches2009 April 3, 2009 at 12:48 pm

Oh, there will be quick stopovers in Toronto and New York if need be…that would take care of TOfan and refnaf, awestruck you may need to get to Toronto from Calgary (they have the Canadian flags) and all others here…

  188. 189 djafan April 3, 2009 at 1:00 pm

First, pabuckie makes me cry and now

    sandybeaches2009 has me in stitches!!!

What great way to start the day all for David.

  189. 190 junnie4dja April 3, 2009 at 1:02 pm

    lol sandybeaches 2009.

No need for that ! Rest assured he will be well loved and taken care of over at this part of the world. It is indeed many many thousands miles away and it is his first trip away , on his own ?!

  190. 191 Abrra April 3, 2009 at 1:18 pm

    tawna21 April 3, 2009 at 11:50 am
Happy to make one for you. Can send it along when things get going. Soon-ish.

  191. 192 sandybeaches2009 April 3, 2009 at 2:14 pm

Update to 12:42 pm…in detail…the United plane is now on standby…onboard music does not need to be questioned BUT POSITIVELY THERE WILL NOT BE “JUMPING UP AND DOWN IN THE AISLES ALLOWED” as this may be silverfoxe’s first solo flight …knotlister!!! She will be preparing in advance “nutritional food” in several picnic baskets…she is quietly trying to convert me to a healthy lifestyle!

The plane is big enough to accomodate all jD people if necessary as we have been on a long journey together already and everyone may want to come along…Have your bag by the door as there will be one call and one call only…

Yes, I will now return to reality…or is this reality??? hahaha!

    Miss him already…

  192. 193 gemzone April 3, 2009 at 2:20 pm

ToFan did you do anything with Richard on Sunday?

  193. 194 pabuckie April 3, 2009 at 2:29 pm

HG – where can I see that interview with the question about FAME to David?

  194. 195 hell0g0rge0us April 3, 2009 at 2:32 pm

Pabuckie, that “interview” was in my dreams! 🙂

  195. 196 gemzone April 3, 2009 at 2:35 pm

ToFan I meant to ask if you did anything with Richard on Sunday while you were in SLC. Sorry my bad.

HG loved your dream. You should be one to interview David though. 🙂

  196. 197 pabuckie April 3, 2009 at 2:40 pm

Great article in Malaysia magazine about “Our” David. They really “Get” him over there. I’m soooooo happy reading this.

  197. 198 TOfan April 3, 2009 at 2:48 pm

gemzone, rotflmao. Scary thing is, you didn’t have to clarify, I knew exactly what you meant! But no. Sunday, Refnaf and I toured downtown SLC, Temple Square, the Conference Centre, then took in a beautiful all-Spanish mass with amazing music at the historic Cathedral of the Madeleine. Very cool.

And Betsy, hope you didn’t lose all your files!

  198. 199 pabuckie April 3, 2009 at 2:55 pm

HG – duh! I should have known/realized David would never have answered that way…but I loved it.

  199. 200 djafan April 3, 2009 at 3:04 pm

gemzone – HG had some dream… realistic. I have nominated Angelica,HG, and SF.

Hopefully it can come to pass.

pabuckie – it did sound very real to me too.

  200. 201 pabuckie April 3, 2009 at 3:04 pm

Don’t you love that they call him “KING OF THE ROAD” in that magazine.

  201. 202 pabuckie April 3, 2009 at 3:12 pm

A picture of the “Mall of Asia” and the seating plan.

  202. 203 bebereader April 3, 2009 at 3:34 pm

Regarding Part 3 of the Snarkies interview, did David really glare at the mention of Michael Buble’s name? I didn’t notice and I watched it several times.

I hope David remembers to vlog or blog us when he gets a chance after his plane lands. Been thinking all day about how brave he is to fly all those miles to see more of his adoring fans. What a hero! From all the articles it’s so clear how much they love him! Sitting on pins and needles all day until that plane touches down. Ouch!

  203. 204 pabuckie April 3, 2009 at 3:37 pm

Bebereader – Just look at his “eyes” when they say Michael Buble’s name – it’s an intense stare at them. But, not sure what it “means?” But, it looks like “don’t you dare say that..” but no one can really know what the look meant.

  204. 205 blisskasden April 3, 2009 at 3:42 pm

Bebe, “glare” may be a bit extreme, but if you stop the video at that moment, there is definitely a “look” on his face. Of course, every look on his face is cause for micro evaluation by all ODDers (me included), so who knows? He (and we) definitely does not want to be next Michael Buble, although MB is very good at what he does.

  205. 206 pabuckie April 3, 2009 at 3:53 pm

HG, Bliss – if you look at that video again right when the girl asks the question “Which of these careers would you most like to have? David actually gives that “Look” right there only not as intense – I don’t think he really liked the question or thought it was an Odd question. He doesn’t like being compared to anybody, whether it’s singing, careers….I don’t think he minded it but the look is definitely there like “What kind of question is this?”
So, he actually gives “the look” at the question and again, at Michael Buble’s name.

  206. 207 marlie7 April 3, 2009 at 4:20 pm

I think the look was just him being distracted and trying to figure out what they were talking about.

  207. 208 silverfox April 3, 2009 at 4:25 pm

I’ve been trying to keep really busy today, I mean REALLY busy! Cuz I’m a nervous wreck! David is in the air..literally for 20 hrs or more and I will breathe easier when we hear the plane has touched down. Call me cra-zeh, I don’t care! I can’t help it. I know it’s sounds silly, but it’s what it is and I can’t help it..oh I already said that. Course, it’s a perfect opportunity for David to sleep and rest while in the air, no?

I’m listening to “DESPERATE” right this minute. My gosh! What a VOICE! I wish David would add Desperate to his set for the UK and his next U.S. tour. I want to hear him sing this song so desperately! I also happen to love “Let Me Go”, but no one ever mentions that song. It’s really good..course David makes any song sound good. I’m rambling…gotta go get busy again!

  208. 209 Angelica April 3, 2009 at 4:39 pm

That Mall of Asia pic…I thought this was just a promo tour, nothing much but radio and interviews and small venue stuff. That place is HUGE.

I have an extra megaupload from starrynites of SLC burned to a CD. I have no idea how I have it. I did it last night and when the CD was finished I saw something that said put in a blank CD so I did. So now I have 2 complete concerts. If anyone would like one let me know, I think someone up there said the megaupload link was gone now. I did a scan and mcafee found nothing this morning. The only thing is, the CD was burned as one track lasting over an hour, so if you try to fast forward, you just get the first track again. Other than that it sounds great. I don’t know what I’m doing, I only learned how to do any of this stuff a year ago for David out of necessity. 😳

  209. 210 Angelica April 3, 2009 at 4:54 pm

There is a long post on Snarkies worth reading about the interview with David addressing the fan jealousy, complete with the Buble glare.

  210. 211 djafan April 3, 2009 at 5:20 pm

Is he in the air already? Freofan mentioned 3:00pm out of LAX. Trying not to worry…

Watching those interviews over and over, he is really good at not answering what he doesn’t want to without seeming like he doesn’t want to. He is SOOOO smart, and COOL even though he doesn’t know it… he doesn’t need sun glasses for that.

I also have the SLC file downloaded and can make a copy for anyone.

SF—Desperate, Let Me Go, and Falling are on my top my five from the get go. I was so looking forward to him singing Falling when I saw it on the list. Maybe next time. It was nice to hear him mention it on the interview, he’s must be getting feed back about it.

I don’t know if this has been posted, over at FOD there’s a message from Ralphie, the nighttime DJ:97 BHT,Wilkes Barre (Eastern), Pennsylvania

regarding him playing Zero Gravity on air. It’s interesting read and didn’t want to bring it over due to the length.

  211. 212 pabuckie April 3, 2009 at 5:40 pm

Silverfox – I also really liked the song “LET ME GO”. Didn’t know why this song has NEVER really been mentioned at all. It reminds me of an uptempo song and a good radio song like “ZERO GRAVITY”. I can only imagine the dance moves David would have done with this one.

  212. 213 pabuckie April 3, 2009 at 6:03 pm

Angelica – I went to read the Snarky post but didn’t find anything where they explained the Buble “glare”. I really don’t care about it – I just thought it was funny the look he gave was pretty intense. Nothing David does bothers me – but I love how we all intensely find every nuance, look, nook and cranny, hand movement, gesture, finger point, dance move, FASCINATING! It’s great knowing how much we all look so closely at him isn’t it?

  213. 214 Angelica April 3, 2009 at 6:27 pm

They don’t explain it, they screen capped it with the cation, “Michael Buble? Really Amy, how dare you mention that amateur in my Archu-presence?” lol. I don’t know what he was thinking there either, but David has a very expressive face. When he sings, his expressions convey exactly the emotions he feels, so maybe it’s not too much of a stretch to think it works that way in real life too.

  214. 215 vee60 April 3, 2009 at 6:31 pm

    Hello to everyone

Just having a breakie right now, Works for me ( reno version). Just after 9 am here.

Just read half of the comments, and will read the rest later after.

But before anything else.MSLV and Debra5354, condolence on your lost. My family and I are now preparing ourselves, my 15 year old niece is really just counting her days. Even with continues blood transfusion, her platelet count continue to go down.

Abrra, sent you an email. Thank you and Dawn65. I am now counting …….

    Will be back soon…

  215. 216 Angelica April 3, 2009 at 6:45 pm

Yes, he is a fascinating creature to watch. I don’t care what he’s thinking really either but I like the way he thinks!

    Hey Vee.

I wonder if he’s there yet? I should have found something to keep me busy like SF. I’ll feel better when I know he’s safely there. 😕

  216. 217 blisskasden April 3, 2009 at 6:56 pm

Now that ZG is being played on random radio stations, there can be no doubt that it will his next single. The version being played is nowhere near the quality or excitement of David’s stage performance, so I hope that any final released version will be more of a clone of what we saw on the tour. It is one of the catchiest songs to come down the pike in years, and is the definition of “radio friendly”. Look for David to showcase it on AI, and for it to be a #1 song immediately afterward.

  217. 218 sandybeaches2009 April 3, 2009 at 6:59 pm

I am serious with this request…would someone explain to me the reason for Buble’s great fame? I can’t get it,not wanting to be against another Canadian but I don’t know what it is that seems so fascinating about him…I know it must be just me because heaven knows he has a great many fans..but I just don’t get him so what am I missing?

Thanks to anyone who can answer that…

  218. 219 sandybeaches2009 April 3, 2009 at 7:05 pm

    Thanks in advance…

  219. 220 sandybeaches2009 April 3, 2009 at 7:07 pm

bebereader…perhaps that should be .com instead of .ca

  220. 221 pabuckie April 3, 2009 at 7:12 pm

Angelica, yes, I agree how David is so expressive. Did you see those pics of him on Fans of David? Whoa! He has some look of passion on his face and what about just the way his body is moving?? Talk about art!!

and Bliss, I too don’t like the studo version of Zero Gravity…I wish we could get the word out to DJs somehow that if they only knew how David sings this song LIVE it is completely different sounding than that slow studio version…God, what they are missing in the PASSIONATE LIVE VERSION!!

SB, there’s no accounting for taste in this world. Look what happened on American Idol last May 21.

  222. 223 sandybeaches2009 April 3, 2009 at 7:19 pm

I know that I will rest easy when he is back on…US soil…travelling overseas is not easy although he is with Ray…right it is Ray?

A few years ago I had an employee who dearly wanted to take the time off and travel to Australia…I did not want to lose his talents forever as he was a great business person so I let him go for the months he needed…He is six feet tall, dark wavy hair, hazel eyes, quite often a five o’clock shadow and very good looking…extremly musical and athletic…So, as he told me, young North American guys are rather idolized in Asia…and much sought after on occassion…An Asian girl travelling in Australia showed up here in Nova Scotia months after his return but she was touring as well and he bowed out etc. etc…I saw the pictures, I saw the beaches and the concert halls…

How long is he gone for???????

  223. 224 sandybeaches2009 April 3, 2009 at 7:24 pm

bliss…Well, so true, but is it the crooning, the reminder of singers like Sinatra?

  224. 225 dawn65 April 3, 2009 at 7:35 pm

Just popping in to say that I loved the Buble glare…as brief as it was.

Not many things bring out the glare.

Personally.. I’m a HUGE fan of the glare.

David is very opinionated.. and I love him all the more for it.. as subtle as it is.. it’s easy to catch..because usually he’s just a ray of freaking sunshine.

  225. 226 dawn65 April 3, 2009 at 7:36 pm

    oh vee ..

    I’m so so sorry.

  226. 227 Angelica April 3, 2009 at 7:39 pm

    bliss and pabuckie,

Oh man, wouldn’t that be sweet if he sang ZG on AI? It would be EPIC and you’re right, bliss, catapult that thang right into the number one pocket!

  227. 228 sandybeaches2009 April 3, 2009 at 7:44 pm

Angelica…Is there a date for David to be on AI yet??

  228. 229 blisskasden April 3, 2009 at 8:08 pm

SB, there definitely is a void when it comes to “crooners” in the music world. The days of Sinatra, Bing, Perry Como and Tony Martin are long gone. I don’t even think the word “crooner” is even used any more. David is not a crooner, although he can croon with the aforementioned legends in a heartbeat. Sinatra loved new talent, and he would have adored David, both as a singer and as a person. Sinatra was an enigma too. He was a fierce advocate for the underdog, and singlehandedly ended segregation in Las Vegas Hotels.

As for Michael Buble, I have friends who have seen him, and they thought he was good. Like you, I don’t really get him, but, hey, that’s just me.

DAILY DOWNLOAD : David Archuleta – Zero Gravity
    97 BHT,Wilkes Barre (Eastern), Pennsylvania

    From Ralphie, the nighttime DJ:

    Hello Archie Fans,

My name is Ralphie – and yes, I played “Zero Gravity” on my show tonight. For those who missed it, or would like to listen to it again, please click here:

I went through the thread started by Amy… wow, grew so quickly. Thanks for tuning in and for the support. Amy, thanks for posting that, even if you called me a dufas later in the thread

If you’re wondering, I’ve interviewed David twice. Nice kid, very genuine. Both interviews can be heard/seen here:

His father Jeff is a great guy too, I met him the second time.

Thank you for the e-mails – there were many – I cannot respond to them all (thus this thread). But yes, I knew you were all big fans, even if some of you tried to “hide it” at the suggestion of others.

Okay, going to try and address some FAQs from the previous thread…

    – I did not receive the mp3 from the label, nor did I ask/seek their permission to air it. My segment, “The Daily Download”, is all about new and undiscovered songs that listeners might like. “Zero Gravity” met the criteria, although if Jive decides to shoot a “Cease and Desist” letter my way, I’ll definitely scan it and post it up! Haha.

    – I like the song.

    – Can’t say how I obtained the mp3, although it seems most of you are familiar with the version I played anyways, so that shouldn’t matter.

    – I do not know if the label will release this as a single. If I were all of you, I would push for a re-release of the CD, perhaps a “deluxe” or “special edition” version that included this track. Again, I don’t concern myself with label business when deciding what songs make the cut for the segment.

    – Your support of the song helps – but I would hope that fans on a David Archuleta message board like the track. Songs need more than love from the core fan base, they need wide mainstream appeal. So spread the word.

    – If you want other radio stations to play the song, you need to grab the attention of music directors and program directors.

Okay I’m done, thank you all again, you certainly made my Thursday evening a bit more interesting.

    Thanks to FOD

i sent you an email at .ca and .com maybe something good is coming soon?

Just want to extend my prayers and thoughts to all of you who are going through such trying times, and vee60, I am so sorry for you and your family.

SF, I think Desperate would be awesome in UK too, and I would really like to see him do Let Me Go live!

dawn65 – I loved the ‘look’ in the interview too! I could care less as to the why, I am just thrilled to witness it. He really is quite steely. He will need that as he navigates his way through this business.

  232. 233 Angelica April 3, 2009 at 8:18 pm

I read on another site that Ryan Seecrest mentioned on his radio show that David will be appearing in May. Fans are speculating May 13th after he returns from the UK. Someone else may know something more definite.

  233. 234 Angelica April 3, 2009 at 8:24 pm

“I loved the ‘look’ in the interview too! I could care less as to the why, I am just thrilled to witness it. He really is quite steely. He will need that as he navigates his way through this business.”

And did you notice how many times during the 3 interviews he pounded the table for emphasis? I hope he uses that occasionally when he is “negotiating” with TPTB. 😆

  234. 235 sandybeaches2009 April 3, 2009 at 8:26 pm

Thanks Angelica…wow he will have travelled so far by then and it will be so good to see what his travels do for his singing……

  235. 236 pabuckie April 3, 2009 at 8:41 pm

Angelica, I’ve been meaning to ask for quite some time now….what does “TPTB” stand for?

  236. 237 pabuckie April 3, 2009 at 8:46 pm

Angelica – I justg figured it out
“The Powers That Be” . Is that right?

  237. 238 emmiegirl April 3, 2009 at 8:51 pm

Angelica – yep! Loved it! Passion! Determination!

  238. 240 sandybeaches2009 April 3, 2009 at 9:00 pm

There is a song that David interjected…”I want to save a life”…I believe it was in a SLC song…does anyone know which song it was ? I have heard it once but have lost the song…The wording may not be exact…

  239. 241 rapture April 3, 2009 at 9:00 pm

OH how I miss the e-family here!

TOfan, loved reading your article! I’ve been too busy with taxes to indulge my David Love! But I just stole a minute to peek in.

That’s it. I just wanted to let you all know how much you’re missed and that I do think of you guys and your sincere, wise and often hilarious postings here.

I’ll see you after April 15th!

  240. 242 mikesd April 3, 2009 at 9:02 pm

Sorry to just pop in here like this but saw the comments on Michael Buble and had to chime in. I have seen him in concert and really think he has an incredible voice, different than David’s but also a huge talent. But, the most important thing about Michael Buble is that, like David, he very much cares about his fans. He comes down into the audience, encourages photos during his performance because he understands how fans are and when I saw him, he spent a lot of time after the show signing autographs, talking to as many as he could until his “people” had to pull him away… Sound familiar??

  241. 243 Angelica April 3, 2009 at 9:03 pm

You mean DLG? He interjects a line from the Fray, “Had I known how to save a life.”

  242. 244 rapture April 3, 2009 at 9:06 pm

It’s in Don’t Let Go. Right after the lyrics: “Some days are cold but together, one day we’ll both change the weather and it gets better…” There is a pause and David adds a line from a song by The Frey. The lyrics are “Had I known how to save a life…”

  243. 245 fandaforeverti48 April 3, 2009 at 9:09 pm

Pabuckie, Angelica, Dawn, bliss, bebe. – fun discussion on the “glare”.

bliss – ……“glare” may be a bit extreme, but if you stop the video at that moment, there is definitely a “look” on his face. Of course, every look on his face is cause for micro evaluation by all ODDers (me included)…….” That would be me, too.

Angelica627 “I don’t know what he was thinking there either, but David has a very expressive face. When he sings, his expressions convey exactly the emotions he feels, so maybe it’s not too much of a stretch to think it works that way in real life too.”

So, what do you think the expression in the Holiday of Hope (jwipe) Imagine @ 2:54-:56,that brings tears to his eyes? I think I saw it again in JB Sacto You Can :36, 2:36,3:23, actually too many to note during that performance (verge of tears, again). Maybe his eyes are the windows to his heart & soul? Love those performances, along with Sayerville DLG.

  244. 246 emmiegirl April 3, 2009 at 9:11 pm

mikesd – A friend is a big Michael Buble fan she asked my sister and I to go to a concert with her. He really does have a beautiful voice and I enjoyed the concert. She is really over the moon for him (that also sounds familiar.) I would go to another concert if she invited me, but not seek out going on my own. I bought a CD, but just don’t listen to it that often.

He did seem like a very nice man.

  245. 247 fandaforeverti48 April 3, 2009 at 9:13 pm

SB – actually, the first time he inserted that line was the Sayerville DLG. He included it most (though not all) concerts, after that.

  246. 248 emmiegirl April 3, 2009 at 9:15 pm

Just another quick note, when she asked us to go to the Michael Buble concert, I hadn’t even heard of him and she was just gushing over him, and I remember thinking, “this seems a little extreme.” Needless to say, I have relearned a very valuable lesson!

  247. 249 mikesd April 3, 2009 at 9:22 pm

He really is one of those performers who produces a great show, has a great reputation, is solid in his direction and his desire to preserve many of the great sounds of years ago… an all around great personality. To say that David could be the next Buble, in my opinion is a definite compliment. I think that Michael would think very highly of David (I can’t help but believe that Michael is already familiar with his work).

  248. 250 fandaforeverti48 April 3, 2009 at 9:28 pm

mikesd, emmmiegirl – I like Buble, esp. his song “Lost”. I have the video – very moving. The difference for me is the VOICE sings with so much emotion. Buble’s vid w/o the content & just his singing (and he does have a nice tone to his voice) would be just ok. David moves you with his voice, body & soul. The content would just throw you over the top. Like rascal’s vid of SOT. I can barely get through the first 10 sec. without a flood of tears. By the end, I am a total mess & done…………….

  249. 251 dawn65 April 3, 2009 at 9:30 pm

Here’s just my take on the Buble thing.. and yes.. he’s very talented.. I would never disagree.. My heart is just stuck right now.. and I don’t foresee anytime in the near or far future that it may get unstuck. David has ruined all other music for me.. especially when it comes to “vocalists”.. as is..Mr. Buble.

HOWEVER.. I believe Buble is a balladeer. And I think David not only doesn’t LIKE that label…but is working VERY very hard to shed that notion.

That may part.. be some of the “look”. It hit “something”.. nonetheless.

It’s going to take ALOT of practice for David to effectively “disguise” how he may truly feel about something..because he’s easily read.

I’m well versed on the many expressions. (as are MOST here in my elite group of jDers.)

Like.. at the ending of With You.. on idol.. that look was all about.. yeah.. that kind of sucked..but at least I tried.

That’s why it’s one of my favorites. Awkward..and uncomfortable.. vocally ..nearly perfect.. but endearingly awkward.

I’m boycotting David now. I’m feeling very alone now that he’s on the other side of the world.

I’ll bear no picket signs… but I’ll protest in silence.

  250. 252 fandaforeverti48 April 3, 2009 at 9:49 pm

For me, David’s music is soulful pop. The covers are emotive R&B, passionate rock, tenderhearted….. Gads, not sure where this is going. Sorry. Back to work.

  251. 253 emmiegirl April 3, 2009 at 10:01 pm

fandaforever – Me too, I think Buble is very talented, along the lines of Groban. The same, but different. They just do not move me the way David does. He grabs you at the core and refuses to let you go. And this is at 18.
    Cannot imagine another 10 years!

dawn – yeah, I think the “balladeer” label from AI is one he definitely does not want to be identified with. And yes, his face is kindof like reading an open book, very emotive. I, too, am, as you say, ‘stuck’. This is it, from here on out, and I have no intention of releasing myself from its grip.

  252. 254 TOfan April 3, 2009 at 10:03 pm

Extra, extra, read all about it! New post from Brooklyndawn just went up (new thread). 🙂

  253. 255 davidfanLIZ April 3, 2009 at 10:03 pm

    new post…..

  254. 256 silverfox April 3, 2009 at 10:10 pm

Here’s the link to what I think is the David’s best performance of DLG in Sayreville..soulful, pleading, almost painful to watch, cuz he is so into it!

I just watched part 2 of The Interview and there WAS a fleeting “look” when Buble name was mentioned, but it could have been simply that he was caught off guard cuz Buble is SO FAR from where David is going with his music right now. I think they could have chosen another artist to add to the mix. Someone who is “different from David” like Springsteen for example, or Timberlake, but not as different as Buble’. I wonder what David thinks of Bruce & Justin cuz they are so huge, or artists like Prince. We know he loves Michael Jackson’s music & performances. It’s just me that’s curious, that’s all.

The thing that really intrigued me about this interview is David’s ability to multitask..He seemed to be reading & texting for a good part of the time, which must have been very distracting to the Snarks. But still answered the questions with thoughtful intelligence. And he thinks he’s not cool?? He is cooler than the coolest, hippest 18 year old I have EVER seen.

  255. 257 river992 April 3, 2009 at 10:15 pm

I’ll chime in a bit about Buble, not that I’m a fan, but I respect his talent. I have liked some recordings but do not like to watch him perform. Can’t say exactly why. There is just no connection. David, on the other hand…. well I could illuminate NYC with that connection.
